'Sophistication' at Galleria Duemila

-

After her successful show at Galleria Duemila in 2001, German jeweler Ursula Woerner presents “Sophistication” which is on view until Dec. 31 at Galleria Duemila at 210 Loring St., Pasay City.

Woerner had her technical training at the renowned Goldschmiedeschule in Pforzheim in the south of Germany and continued her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

She is known for jewelry pieces inspired by organic structures, little treasures that seem to have secretly grown on a coral reef.

For her new collection, Woerner explored a new field of creative experience. She combines organic structures with traditional motives from the European Alps and lock elements that convey a sense of mystery — and glamorous sophistication. Beneath this contrast one will discover a hidden harmony, a composition carefully balanced out by the artist.

Her favorite material is silver, which she often combines with pearls, corals, and stone beads.

The particular surface of handmade silver is another quality of her work and — while the process of creation remains always visible — it evokes the pleasure and joy of wearing individual jewelry.

Having restarted to create sculptures five years ago, one of Woerner’s pieces has recently been acquired by the city council of Amsterdam to adorn a room for wedding ceremonies.
