An evening of Viennese music

-

MCO Foundation presents “The Vienna Connection” a unique musical journey to the opulent world of old Vienna, on Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m., at the Francisco Hall, BDO North Tower, Makati Ave. cor. De la Costa St., Makati City.

Vienna is known for its opulent lifestyle, history and tradition in the Arts, and for 200 years it became the mecca for culture. The country that gave us Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Arnold Schoenberg, the Vienna Boys Choir as well as the Von Trapp family (of Sound of Music fame). “The Vienna Connection” is an exploration of 200 years of musical history of Vienna, the City of Dreams. Featured is some of the most beautiful music written by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms and Schoenberg interpreted by two of the country’s most distinguished artists — pianists Mary Ann Espina and Rudolf Pelaez Golez.

Mary Ann Espina is known for her sensitivity and impeccable musicality. One of the most sought-after collaborating artists in the country today, she continues to team up with outstanding local and international artists in all major concert and recital venues in the country including Israel’s premiere violinist Hagai Shaham, Anastacia Chebotareva, Stephen Framil, Agnelo Bard and Alexandru Tomescu. Espina is the 2007 Aliw Awardee for Best Instrumentalist.

A former child prodigy, Rudolf Golez first studied with Nelly Castro and Sister Lourdes Allegado at the age of 10. At age 13, he left for Juilliard School of Music to study for five years, under the prestigious soloist and pedagogue Seymour Lipkin. Since then, he has performed in major concert halls in Europe, the United States and Asia. In 2005, he was the sole prizewinner of the First ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition held in Malaysia, and a recipient of the Governor’s Award — “Pride of Cebu” or “Gabo sa Sugbu” — by the Cebuanos. This concert marks his first Manila performance after his most recent successful concert tour of the US East Coast.

This concert marks the first collaboration between the two artists.
