Nayong Pilipino launches Master Plan Design contest

-
The Nayong Pilipino, through its executive director Charito L. Planas, has launched a master plan design contest to coincide with its formal Foundation Anniversary this November.

The design contest, which is open to students of all architectural schools and universities nationwide, is a challenge to the youth to demonstrate its creative faculties in designing a new Nayong Pilipino as a living cultural park that showcases the rich diversity of the land and the people of the Philippines, and faithfully captures the Filipino way of life, thus providing a venue for experiential learning.

The Nayong Pilipino, the first cultural park established in Asia and the world, was established formally by PD 37 on Nov. 6, 1972. Transcending 30 years of fruitful existence, the cultural and landscape park confronts the challenges of the new millenium with the need to revitalize and refurbish its worn-out facilities and structures.

Conceived to provide a bird’s eye view of the country’s scenic views and famous cultural and historical landmarks, in replica, Nayong Pilipino expects to generate national pride and interest in this major undertaking which intends to invite the participation of renowned architects, urban planners and designers as contest judges.

The Nayong Pilipino projects the diversity and wealth of the Philippine culture, customs and traditions through a scenic panorama of the country’s major tourist attractions seen at a glance through a single journey around its sprawling grounds, situated right beside the modernized Centennial Airport or NAIA 2 terminal. Forming an integral part of the airport complex, Nayong Pilipino is a natural landmark and gateway to the country’s vast wealth and an enticing showcase to the nation’s cultural heritage and achievements.

Details of the design contest will be announced later at Nayong Pilipino complex. Nayong Pilipino is headed by a board of trustees led by its chairperson Dr. Evelyn L. Kilayko and executive director Charito L. Planas. The organizing committee for this master plan contest is headed by Arch. Josefina Ramos of the NCCA, with member-trustees Emily Abrera of McCann-Erickson, Susan Calo Medina of Travel Time, Arch. Ma. Lourdes Velarde, Atty. Apolonio Anota, archeologist Josefina Belmonte and the National Museum’s Nick Legaspi.
