Nouveau Boheme

MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu Jr. - The Philippine Star

What’s new in Fashion 2015?

The start of in-between seasons in the world of style has officially welcomed the unfolding of the Resort 2015 collections. As chic designer brands present the latest forecasts, one of the key trends we see is the return to La Bohème.

The current take on the iconic ‘70s look echoes a luxurious mood of sophistication, establishing its forthcoming comeback. The reinvention of the hippie has been notably spotted on the runways of Valentino, Dries Van Noten, Chloé, Saint Laurent, Elie Saab, Marchesa, Erdem, Prabal Gurung, Missoni and Roberto Cavalli. They are billowing the right style coverage for the season to come with the most covetable pieces. While the folkloric, flower child, “boho look” is known for casual wear, 2015 is a declaration of day-to-night print sophistication.

In the Philippines, young designer Mia Arcenas welcomes the new year with a tapestry of luxe fabrications in homage to bohemian elegance. Haute hippie chicness in sophistication unfolds distinct fresh prints to welcome the new year in style. Free-flowing lightweight pieces in a variety of dresses create a statement to herald the bold and beautiful. Voluminous sheets in a palette of neutrals and brights modernize the feel of ultra chic resortwear.

The designer’s youthful global appeal interprets classic staples such as black, white and nude redefined in contemporary silhouettes. Noteworthy are the fusion of paisley, animal and checks that showcase a printastic display of nowness in fabrics. The ease and grace of form in a range of hemlines showcases the behavior of  languid sheer beauty.

Bohemian in historical references has a rugged, nonchalant and carefree trademark while Arcenas’ take swings the pendulum of style to the altitudes of refinery. The designer’s modern ‘70s vibe is young, classy and fashionably on-the-radar without being too alienating and over the top. Arcenas’ design collective presents an insightful perspective on generation next’s hippie impressions, channeling understated glam. Adding up to the Boheme ensemble are up-to-date statement pieces such as earrings, rings, neckpieces, bangles, cuffs and the designer’s must-have clutches in metals, enamel and exotic skins.

The look of more is breezing its way to the now but without excessiveness. The study of restraint styling with a no-nonsense idealism is a reflection of today’s practical code of dressing.
