Velada 2014: We are inspired; we are home (Conclusion)

FAMILY JEWELS - Michelle Dayrit-Soliven - The Philippine Star

The Assumption velada is such a joyous homecoming tradition. Yearafter year, it binds together beautiful generations of inspired Assumption alumnae eager to share their stories, stage talents and resources to celebrate the legacy of their beloved school. Meet the Jewels of Velada 2014:

Pearl

“We, the members of Assumption College High School Class of 1984, unabashedly acknowledge that this school has shaped our lives. Assumption gave us a sense of self by nurturing and encouraging us — even smiling upon our youthful exuberance, our liking for fun and a bit of mischief. Assumption gave us a sense of selflessness, inspiring us to empathize with the less fortunate, to be socially, economically and politically aware. Finally, Assumption gave us a sense of belonging, of being one. Though years have passed, as we lead vastly diverse lives and have walked down different paths, we remain one in love, one in faith and one in spirit!”

Ruby

“We are the music makers. The dreamers of dreams…Thumbing our noses once again at rules and restrictions, while we continue to embrace our Assumption values and traditions. We were the first “merged graduates” from AC San Lorenzo and Herran. Daring yet dedicated divas they say…Well, we’ve all been there, done that, and now we look forward with joyful anticipation to what the next 10 years will bring…for we are the Rebel Rubies High School Class 1974.”

Sapphire

“To channel all that energy into transforming society is truly inspiring! We, the Sapphire ladies of batch 1969, are an equally diverse group of women who have forged different destinies yet remain bonded by a common thread of values: fidelity and love of simplicity. These unique qualities, rooted in our years at school, have continued to ignite hope and meaning in the lives of our families and social milieu. And so on the occasion of our Sapphire jubilee, we choose to pay homage to our beloved Assumption — and the special way it inspires us all.”

Gold

“We, the Golden jubilarians of Assumption High School Class of 1964, are grateful for our Assumption education that helped mold us into what we are today — women of grace and substance, women who can laugh at ourselves despite the seriousness of purpose in supporting many important causes, foremost of which is providing quality education to the children of the Assumption mission schools. This is our way of passing on the legacy of our Assumption education to our own children and to the youth of today.”

Emerald

“To be joyful and spirited is to be true to who we are as Assumption girls. Take it from us Emerald jubilarians, who, since 1959, have remained active and united in joy, in service, and tonight, in dance! Through thick and thin, celebrations and seasons, we are one! Indeed a beautiful batch of ladies from the High School Class of 1959.”

Blue Diamond

“This school has done such beautiful work in grounding, chiseling, smoothening and sharpening 72 young girls of our batch. (Assumption) provided silent strength, the fiber that wove in and out of the fabric of life’s many stresses, the fearless stamina, the indomitable courage, the boundless generosity, the steadfast faith, and the eternal love that each one abundantly poured thick on her own children, social and entrepreneurial activities. Our message to you Assumption — our love — and know that we have learned to be and to live for the other. If this is what we are, then our dear Assumption know that you have achieved top honors with Class 1949. We thank you all, Assumption!”

One of the surprise highlights of the program was the presentation of the Outstanding Alumna award to Sr. Isabel Villacarlos, r.a., a Diamond jubilarian from the class of 1954. She was recognized for her missionary service and for being a constant reminder of what it means and what it takes to be like Jesus.

Congratulations to Sr. Isabel and all the lovely jubilarians!
