Relaxation boosts your looks
MANILA, Philippines - Relax. Indulge. Reinvent yourself.
Following the end of his latest GMA-7 series, Kambal Sirena, Aljur Abrenica jumps at the opportunity to indulge in some hobbies. He says he alternates playing basketball, training for Muay Thai and lifting weights.
“My main goal is to stay fit and healthy,” he says. “Everything will follow.”
Looking ahead, the 24-year-old actor known for his chiseled body and sculpted abs in Machete is hoping to cut a leaner physique. He wants to trim down to a body like Bruce Lee’s, he says, which aligns with his hope of eventually doing action roles.
Because he stays active, Aljur feels he is up for the challenge. He credits his uncle for being a huge influence on him, teaching him how to dance and inspiring him take up karate. “Actually, nag-karate ako, Muay Thai and taekwondo noong bata pa ako.” He adds, “My dad is into fitness. He lifts weights. He is also my inspiration.”
These days, after all his physical activities, he gives himself a little treat once a week — he spends time at the spa. Having recently just renewed his endorsement with BlueWater Day Spa, Aljur sets some time at night after his workouts to recharge.
His favorite is the Brazilian Hand and Foot Massage, which, he says, helps his muscles regain flexibility.
When he wants to indulge a bit more, he books the Spa Theater, available at BlueWater’s Greenhills-Ortigas and Tomas Morato branches, where he enjoys getting foot massage while watching movies. Inviting family members and showbiz friends over gives him “the opportunity to bond with the people who are important to me.”
He has also celebrated his birthday at the Spa Theater, a treat well-deserved. Aljur adds he is able to manage the stress of life with his regular visits to BlueWater Day Spa.
As Aljur takes a break and deals with some career issues, he takes this opportunity to return to his other love — singing. After a long overdue second album, which has been discussed in the media since last year, he’s returned to the studio to record a song.
Nanghihinayang, a cover of Jeremiah’s hit, is now available in digital format via iTunes and Spinnr. He says his label will focus on digital releases, recording and releasing tracks one at a time.
With a number of TV shows and movies under his belt, he considers the current challenges he faces as a natural part of life. “I’m happy that there are challenges. My maturity is being put to the test. I wanna be a good example. I wanna bring inspiration to others; I want to help people,” he points out.
Aljur is a dutiful son who helps send his siblings to school; a compassionate young man who has been helping send some poor kids to school — and refuses to discuss it. he is an artist with hopes of improving his skills.
He plans to do more, but even onscreen leading men need a break. From it, he comes out rejuvenated and, hopefully, reinvented.
