More than just a mother

Manila, Philippines -  A mother’s job isn’t easy. There’s no pay, no rest days and no holidays. But it is also the best job, as proven by Alabat, Quezon Vice Mayor Nida Cabrera — the grateful mother of two top models of beauty brand Ever Bilena: Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2005 Gionna Cabrera and Miss Earth-Philippines 2011 candidate Gabrielle Marie Cabrera.

The friendly and compassionate mother of five says her greatest achievement is that she was able to guide her children well when they were growing up. She finds inspiration in their achievements and because of them, she’s motivated to further serve other children, her many scholars.

“I love mingling with the people in the barangays,” says the vice mayor, who is an alumna of the UP College of Fine Arts. She’s thankful that she’s able to see the legislative process first-hand and get access to national departments on fund solicitations for her town, thus effortlessly channeling help to the needy.

“I have learned to love my work, which is very challenging. For one, I am a workaholic,” she explains. Cabrera is also the presiding officer of the Sangguniang Bayan, the municipality’s legislative body.

When she finds time, though rarely, she likes swimming in the beach, taking long walks, mountain climbing, dancing and painting. She is a very prayerful woman, too. “Though we are in modern times, values should remain constant,” she shares. “Be sincere in your dealings and accept the realities of life.”

Indeed, notable is a mother who accepts the dynamic job of a public servant. But being a mom to two beauty queens and a whole town is a hard act to follow.
