A woman named Martha

FAMILY JEWELS - Michelle Dayrit-Soliven -

She was born with an innate passion to create a beautiful life for her family. And that is exactly what she lives for. She has done well in every way and she extends her blessings to all of us — her loved ones. This creative genius loves to share her labors of love. Her name is Martha Orosa-Uy.

One of the most memorable and meaningful celebrations of the summer was Martha’s 50th birthday party. That celebration proved that Martha is a super mom, beloved friend, multi-talented artist, designer, stylish homemaker and gracious host.

Fifty glorious and fruitful years of living, loving, growing and nurturing was reason to celebrate. Her rewards: loving friends and family.

Martha’s intentions for the evening was for all her loved ones to simply enjoy, relax and experience the best time of their lives. Hence, she chose the theme “Soul Train.” It was a welcome blast from a colorful past that filled Martha’s beautiful home with funky costumed Motown dancers shaking their booties on a shimmering dance floor under the stars.

Family members and her dear Assumption classmates came together in full force to perform a high energy dance medley, clad in ‘70s minis, sexy hot pants, fish nets and shiny boots. It was truly a sight to behold with graceful Martha right in the middle of them all.

Just as Martha taught she had orchestrated everything so perfectly, which she did, her own talented brood of three — Stevie, Sara and John — came up with a big surprise. With so much artistry and heart, her children secretly produced a music video dedicated to their super mom. It began with a soulful performance by the children themselves. Their splendid voices blended like angels as they sang You Raise Me Up.

They each conveyed special messages of love. With gratitude, John said, “Mom, because you cradled us since we were babies until you raised us to be the persons we are today, we always felt your love and care.”

With much affection, Sara said, “Mom you raised us to brighten other people’s lives the way you brightened ours.”

With utmost respect, Stevie said, “Amidst the problems and challenges we faced, you taught us to believe in ourselves. You raised us to be the best we can be.

Martha’s beloved husband Nori said, “Martha, my love! When we met about 26 years ago, my whole world lighted up! Together, with God’s grace, we raised a home and a family with three beautiful children. You are our light that continues to shine so brightly.”

As they concluded their song, they converged in a circle to light some pretty lanterns. Sara whispered, “You see these glowing lanterns? They are all for you, Mom. Our best wishes, prayers and love for you as we celebrate not only today but every day you brighten up our lives.” Family members and dearest friends released a bevy of lanterns that lighted up the night sky with loving reverence to lovable Martha.

Martha was overwhelmed, appreciative and very touched by the surprise her children came up with. “This is my very best birthday gift of all.” A teary-eyed crowd responded with warm applause.

Happy birthday, dear Martha! Thank you for brightening our world with your gracious love!
