Face of Allure: Lexi Fernandez
MANILA, Philippines - The thought of losing her mom changed her life. “I’m my mom’s best friend,” declares 16-year-old Alexia “Lexi” Fernandez Alvarez. Aside from their many trips to the beach, her most unforgettable childhood memories include accompanying her mother, actress Maritoni Fernandez, to the set of her TV shows and movies. “When my mom battled breast cancer, I thought I would lose her. So my childhood ambition was to become a doctor because I wanted to cure her,” she reveals.
But it wasn’t long before Lexi herself glided into the world of entertainment. Last year, the half-Filipino, half-British beauty joined show business and was launched as one of the most promising teen stars of her mother network GMA-7. With just over a year in the industry, Lexi has already been part of a number of TV shows and has also been seen in the silver screen via the teen drama flick Tween Academy: Class of 2012. She is set to appear in a few more movies in the coming months.
“I love my job because I get to work and have fun at the same time,” gushes Lexi. “It’s something most people don’t get to experience until after school.” Not only does she earn her own money from being an actress, Lexi also earns more important things like the value of hard work and friendship. “As teen stars, we have to be extra careful with what we do because we are examples to our fellow teenagers.”
Her parents must be really proud of Lexi because she is able to juggle her studies and showbiz commitments very well. The high school junior says her dad, businessman Alexander Alvarez, instilled in her the importance of education.
Lexi, whose interests include music and the Internet, believes that integrity is something a person must have. “Always go with what you believe in. But try not to hurt anyone. And if you do, apologize.”
