Peter, the qi healer

A SPIRITED SOUL - Jeannie E. Javelosa -

There are therapists. And there are healers. I have been suffering from a yoga knee injury for close to a year. It has taken me this long to finally and slowly feel it heal. The journey of healing included visits to two doctors who gave me medical prescriptions that stopped the pain for as long as I took the medicines; traditional hilot techniques for many months; until I finally found myself under the hand of a Hong Kong Chinese reflexologist.

Peter Wong can’t even speak English, but his Filipino wife Bing, herself a reflexologist, translates any communication that needs to be shared. Many years back, Peter ran a successful importation of designer eyewear. He was smitten by Bing, who he proposed to after seven days and brought to live in Hong Kong, settling comfortably into married life. But Peter, a third generation in a family of Chinese healing reflexologists, always had the gift of healing through his hands but never used this as he was busy running his successful company. But as all stories of how personal life missions unfold, Peter and Bing found themselves with nothing — as through some fluke, the Universe took everything away. They had no choice but to come back home to Manila. And it is in Manila that his gift has been expressed. Today, they run a small modest reflexology center where Peter’s steady clientele come to have their “qi” or life forces flow freely.

Reflexology is an ancient therapy of focused foot (also hands and ears) massage originating in China over 5,000 years ago. Reflexology focuses on those parts of the feet, hands, ears, representing weakened parts of the body. Peter works with subtle energy flows, revitalizing the body so that the natural internal healing mechanisms of the body can respond and do their work more effectively.

He has cured people who have had cancer, worked with stroke patients and healed a variety of illnesses.

Early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health by using pressing, shaking, rocking, stretching, slapping, chopping, punching, rotating and massage techniques on the feet. Today, these techniques cure a number of illnesses, emotional problems, stress-related disorders and tension.

Aside from the physical manipulation of working on the reflex points and releasing not only blockages and toxins (even break down uric acid crystals that concentrate around reflex point), Peter combines this with “ventosa” therapy. This is the suction cupping using plastic vacuum cups, (I am told there are also bamboo and glass ones) to stimulate the various channels, nerves and “qi” energy pathways to improve the blood supply to the reflex organs. Never mind that sometimes I would leave with darkened circular spots on my back, but I have never felt better!

Peter even does a reiki-like transference of positive healing energy he channels from the Universe and brings down to my body without touching the body. The effect is the stimulating and flowing hot energy current, alternating with cold healing energy currents as he works on the bio-electrical aspects of the body.

I always leave the sessions smelling of Chinese herbal oils, but totally energized, calmed and in balance. Peter’s practice as a therapeutic healer, formerly thought of by Western mainstream medicine as either folk hocus-pocus or alternative medicine, is now a mainstream practice. Western medicine has conceded that ancient or natural healing practice can bring the physical body into harmony through the balancing of the “inner winds” or qi as central to the healing.
