The Catholic Women’s Club (CWC) recently celebrated the 88th year of its continuing service to God and the community with a ball dubbed Ang Ating Kahapon sa Ngayon at the Manila Polo Club’s Main Lounge. In harmony with a Filipiniana motif reminiscent of a genteel era in our nation’s history, it featured an exquisite Rigodon de Honor and Pasa Doble dance numbers participated by officers and members led by president Nonie Basilio. The steering committee behind the success of this annual charity ball is composed of chairman Karen Macasaet and co-chairpersons Rose Lazaro, Mabel Abaño and Rosita Lesaca. Supporting them were Lili Adina, Carrie Bautista, Tessie Briones, Tessie Rodrigo, Linda Cruz, Chloe Periquet, Tess Castro, Thelma Gana, Mimi and Nikki Valerio, Lulu Castañeda, Kim Lokin, Tessie Amparo, Shirley Uy, Baby Gloria, Nene Leonor, Nene Casimiro, Nenuca Blardony, Rose Hugo, Terry Tambunting and Lin Liboro. Congratulations and Mabuhay, ladies!
A Tertulia Sunset
A beautiful “Tertulia” evening was recently held at the Goldenberg Mansion, Manila’s only surviving grand Spanish regime home. Organized by the Society for Cultural Enrichment Inc. (SCEI), the event seeks to improve the quality of life of Filipinos through the enhancement of arts and cultural heritage appreciation and learning. Led by SCEI chairman and president Gerry Contreras, vice chairman Dr. Jimmy Laya, first vice president Consul Helen Ong, second vice president Cristina Caedo, treasurer Mimi Valerio and liason trustee Tess Castro, the 19th century “Tertulia” tradition consisted of music, poetry and friendly discussions on art. Congratulations and Mabuhay!
