Face of Allure: Glenny's Margareth Mesa

-

MANILA, Philippines - “Start each day with optimism,” says 18-year-old Glennys Margareth Mesa. “If you don’t allow negativity to get hold of you, you will notice that throughout the day, you will be more efficient and can handle difficult situations much easier.” For her, a positive disposition in life is the key to happiness.

This is the same attitude she brings when she does her modeling stints. Statuesque at 5’9”, Glennys has graced many a fashion editorial and has sashayed down the ramp for various fashion brands. “My biggest challenge as a model is to be able to walk on any surface in towering heels,” she laughs. But the beautiful lass acknowledges that modeling for the country’s top brands is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

And because she believes that she should do whatever it takes when she wants to achieve something, Glennys painstakingly shuttles to and from her hometown in Laguna to attend photo shoots and fashion shows. “I am always thankful for these opportunities. There are plenty of things we should be thankful for. I’ve learned that we should be grateful for every single day that is given to us.”

If there is one person responsible for this girl’s good upbringing, it is her mom Gloria, whom she considers her role model. “I never really looked up to celebrities when I was a child. It has always been my mom Gloria whom I seek for advice and guidance,” she says, adding that for her, a role model is someone who inspires and motivates you to become something greater in life. “That is exactly what my mom does. She is a very confident woman,” furthers Glennys, who also considers her dad Marcelo’s lessons valuable. She says that her dad always pushes her and her brothers to think things through first before jumping into action. “It’s a rule I live by and which has served me well.”

The junior Tourism student says she would like to be around the fashion industry for a few more years, even if it means juggling her grueling schedule in school and modeling. She doesn’t worry though because she only turns to this golden rule when she is taken aback by troubles: “Sometimes, the easy way is the best way. Do not overanalyze. Just consider your time and effort if you have to choose between two different ways of doing something.” — Jerni May H. Camposano
