'Friends of the Manila Cathedral'
“No soul is desolate as long as there is a human being for whom it can feel trust and reverence.” — George Eliot
MANILA, Philippines - Recently, a group called The Friends of the Manila Cathedral was launched with the induction of its first set of officers including Letty Syquia as president. The newly founded organization will help in the restoration and repair of the Manila Cathedral. Guests were welcomed with a solemn Mass officiated by His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales followed by a video presentation showing photos of the Manila Cathedral as it has withstood many disasters for the past 50 years. This year being the golden anniversary of the post-war Manila Cathedral, the Friends of the Manila Cathedral have already begun planning a gala concert to mark the end of the golden celebration as well as in honor of the Immaculate Concepcion. The concert will feature the biggest pipe organ to be played in Southeast Asia accompanied by 150 choir members and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra to be conducted by Austrian conductor Dr. Ernest Hoetzl.
