Frida Kahlo-ka
Once again, Uptown/Downtown sent couturier Antonio “Jan” Garcia off on another fashion challenge. This time, we zeroed in on the colorful and rustic magic of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s world. Jan went straight to work, pouring over books on Coyoacan’s pride and wife of muralist DIego Rivera.
Shares Garcia, “I’ve always wanted to design some pieces as ensembles but can be individually dissected in its specific detail, void of trend and true to old dressmaking techniques. Just like the muse inspiration, Frida Kahlo, I wanted to achieve something that’s honest. Beyond the thematic overstyling and irreverent combinations, I intended some straight forward designed pieces that are something global and modern.”
