Christine Escudero: Christine's charm

- Greggy V. Vera Cruz -

MANILA, Philippines - “Multi-faceted” is how you may describe this indefatigable young woman. She successfully plays a myriad of roles: as doting mother to twins, dedicated wife to Sen. Chiz Escudero and a dynamic theater artist.

The shift from performing on stage to helping out her husband’s constituents has certainly proven to be a breeze for Christine Elizabeth Flores Escudero. Fresh from the successful run of A Song for You in Lucena and San Juan cities, this 35-year-old Cebuana has managed to excel in all of her chosen endeavors... and how!

Christine also has her Belcanto Studio in Quezon City, which offers performing arts programs and fitness sessions for both kids and adults. An alumna of Maryknoll College, she eventually heeded her artistic calling by pursuing a degree in Voice (minor in Piano) at the UST Conservatory of Music.

Being a senator’s wife has also brought her to the center of the limelight. Married to the senator from Sorsogon for almost 10 years has made her adjust to the life of a politician’s wife.

“Nothing has changed as far as I’m concerned. I’m used to facing and relating to a lot of people. Though both of us come from different fields, Chiz and I are the best of friends and that is what makes me very lucky. He teaches me things I don’t understand; apart from that, I also do my job by keeping abreast of the news,” relates Christine.

Time management also plays a vital role to this mother of one-year-old twins Cecilia and Joaquin. Her busy schedule also includes shuttling to Chiz’s hometown to attend to various causes.

“I do believe in my husband’s advocacies that’s why if he has projects for me, I see to it that they have my undivided attention,” she says. Christine used to attend to the concerns of cancer patients, rape victims, battered women and indigents in the Home for the Aged. Eventually, she turned them over to her mother-in-law (Dr. Evelina Escudero) since her father-in-law is now the incumbent congressman (Rep. Salvador Escudero III). “But I still continue visiting them in the Home for the Aged every now and then,” says Christine.

With 2010 just around the corner, how would she handle the possible shift in status considering the strong presidential potentials her husband shows?

“That would be the really big change, if ever. It would be difficult for me but I cannot dwell on that right now because Chiz hasn’t even decided on his exact plans. I admit having my own reservations. But I certainly wouldn’t want to be a hindrance to my husband’s dreams so I’ll just let him do what he wants to do and be very supportive,” she reveals.

Being young, free-spirited and artistic are some of the traits of the very charming Christine. In fact, during gatherings with the spouses of senators, Christine is always in charge of the creative side of their events.

No doubt Christine is a woman of style and substance. “I’m just probably independent and definitely very confident in my being a woman,” she concludes with an endearing smile.
