All for One Leaders from different sectors bring cheer to children
Ayala’s Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Alaska’s Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, two of today’s biggest business executives, are donating some of their precious time to help disadvantaged Filipino children in support of Children’s Hour Phils., Inc. They will share their personal and business outlook in a forum dubbed “Cheer Amidst the Gloom,” which could provide tips on steering business and organizations to more stable grounds. Known to everyone as JAZA, Zobel de Ayala is chairman and CEO of Ayala Corp., one of the largest and most respected business groups in the Philippines. He spearheaded the highly-successful Children’s Hour campaign in 1999 and remains an active donor and trustee of Children’s Hour. Under the Ayala conglomerate are such companies as Globe Telecoms, Bank of the Philippine Islands and Ayala Land. He subscribes to the belief that the Filipino nation is one big family, and “those who have more must willingly share with those who have less.”
Uytengsu is president and CEO of publicly-listed Alaska Milk Corp., which is not only a leading player in the local milk industry, but is also owner of the Alaska Aces, one of the winningest teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Earlier this year, Uytengsu was named the Philippines’ Ernst & Young 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year in conjunction with the SGV Foundation.
Children’s Hour is a fundraising organization that taps individuals, employees and corporations to donate at least one hour of their earnings to projects that improve the welfare of disadvantaged Filipino minors. The business bigwigs will be addressing the annual benefit lunch for Children’s Hour tomorrow at the Ayala Museum in Makati City. An elegant Christmas lunch will be prepared by well-known chef Billy King, as his sixth year contribution to the annual event. Guests are asked to donate P3,000 in this year-end fundraising event. All of the proceeds will go to the Children’s Hour fund.
With former President Corazon Aquino as honorary chair, Children’s Hour exists on the premise that “children are our shared responsibility,” according to Ambassador Bienvenido Tan Jr., chair of the non-government organization.
For those who are better off in life than most, why not help spread some Christmas “Cheer Amidst the Gloom” tomorrow? Donors who wish to attend the annual benefit lunch can contact Children’s Hour at 894-1663 or 752-1179 or 80.
