Blossom, bloom and blush

B HIVE - Bianca Salonga -

The name Hans Brumann has consistently introduced innovative design and supreme workmanship in the world of fine jewelry. Having been founded in 1978, it was Hans Brumman who revolutionized design in the jewelry industry. Instead of the conventional designs, Brumann is celebrated for merging highly sculptural and contemporary designs in each piece. If anything, Brumann has captured the fancy of the most discriminating of tastes through his brilliant ability to highlight uniquely striking elements like carabao horn and natural wood like kamagong.

While one’s antiquated notion of fine jewelry would immediately mean diamonds and gold in intricate patterns, Brumann, on the contrary, showcases the charm, beauty and magnificent of other precious stones with the launch of each collection that he unveils every year. A prelude to the phenomenal blue Tanzanite collection of 2007, the Pink Collection may as well be considered Brumann’s ode to the human mind’s state of happiness and joy. Perhaps even ultimately, love. More over, this intensive symphony of finely crafted rings, neckpieces and earrings speak volumes about the artist’s perspective on modern romance, contemporary femininity and, ultimately, an urban way of life and style.

What’s most interesting about the Pink Collection is that it brings to fore the many stones that come in this alluringly rosy shade. Every stone in the collection may vary in hue intensity, shape and cut further highlighting how this shade is, in fact, versatile and classic. Among those used in putting together the collection include Ruby, Pink Spinel, Rubellite, Pink Tourmaline, Kunzite and Rose Quarts. Notably, each stone reflects a distinct shade of pink that may range from a rich reddish tone a more subdued ethereal rose.

Balancing out the many emotions that the stones from the Pink Collection instantly evoke are Brumann’s distinctly streamlined and sleek lines. Each piece is consistently simple, intellectual and stylishly sculptural, creating a cosmopolitan yet ultimately classic aesthetic. Kamagong wood, carabao horn — elements that provide a soothing and earthy feel — perfectly set off the strikingly precious stones, creating a play of irony between the raw and the polished. Similarly, Brumann creates an interesting contrast in colors through the integration of other precious stones. A serene and tranquil effect is created through Tourmaline, Tsavorites and Peridots, all of which come in varying shades of green. Sunny tones from Lemon Topaz and Yellow Beryl, just the same, result in more vibrant and playful pieces.

More than just a craftsman, a jeweler and an artist, Hans Brumann is a visionary whose last collections — the Amber, Azure and Tanzanite — have changed the landscape of the fine jewelry industry. Brumann expresses, “This is also a way to inform and educate the public about what beautiful stones in different colors nature can give us.”

Certainly, next year will showcase something new. A new stone, new patterns, new cuts and more importantly, a new color. This year, however, love, joy, romance, femininity and happiness emanate in the Hans Brumann Collection. And on a more subliminal if not sentimental note, The Pink Collection, more than just being a yearly presentation of skill and vision, celebrates 30 flourishing and fruitful years of the jeweler.
