Becoming invisible

A SPIRITED SOUL - Jeannie E. Javelosa -

We all have that secret wish to be someone seen, heard and acknowledged.

Many of us love the limelight, others fight and compete for it. It is in human nature to want to be recognized and be applauded. This is the little self, the ego wanting to shine. It is only once we begin to be a little more enlightened and aware and see the ploys of the ego-self playing out, do we realize that there is so much more to this game of “look at me.” There is nothing wrong to want the limelight or to be recognized. But it is worth looking at from another perspective. When we begin to “lust” after this recognition, compete and step on people to get it, when our values do not include fairness, honesty or integrity... then we are not aligning ourselves with spiritual values.

From a higher perspective, away from the small, myopic mindset of the ego-engaged-in-the-material-world game, there are spiritual laws and values that exist despite us and in spite of us. One spiritual truth that the Great Teacher said, “It is not I that does the work, but the Father that makes it manifest in me.” The denial of our little selves to allow the higher good to flow through us is what I call the “cloak of invisibility.”

There are many ways to don the cloak of invisibility in our daily lives. To be invisible is to consciously know that even if we deserve the recognition in the small things we do daily, we step back to allow others who are meeker, more afraid, or quiet to take the limelight. This will allow the flowering of people’s personalities to unfold with no fears. To be invisible is to sometimes hold ourselves back in discussions even if we know more, and want so much to show how smart we are. By doing so, we allow other people’s points of view, their thoughts to be shared, thus strengthening openness. To be invisible is to give, without people knowing we are doing it. And to do such acts of kindness and generosity as anonymously as we can.

For us to understand the power of invisibility is to allow ourselves to be used as vessels of a greater force. The Light — the creative forces of the Universe — looks to us to be expressed. These flow through us in our thoughts and actions when we manifest all that is positive. By doing so, our little selves become so invisible and all that is seen is the luminosity of the positive acts we do. How can we not recognize Mother Teresa, for example? She forgot herself to uplift the weaker and the poorest of the poor and give strength and love to those dying. She could not remain invisible. She was luminous with the love she expressed. And there are many, many other men and women whose works and achievements continue to be recognized by the world because they forgot their little ego selves and chose to be invisible and selfless. The world recognizes their light. Their personalities are acknowledged and applauded for people like them walked to make the world and the earth a better place to be in. This is the spiritual law.

We have to learn to become invisible today. This is because we are undergoing a critical period of transformation in man’s evolution. The energy of Light is infiltrating our galaxy and our minds, our consciousness. We are being forced to be awakened, enlightened and more aware in breaking the little egg shell of the ego-self’s many dramas. As the negatives in the world intensify through crisis in our world and stress in our lives, the choice between doing the higher, more positive good things versus the lower, selfish desires also intensifies. We need to make clear choices. Higher choices. More selfless choices. We have to let the Light shine through us in our invisibility.
