A rare gathering of brilliant minds

The country’s best masterplanners came together recently when the United Suppliers of the Philippines (USP), an eight-member organization of construction bigwigs, co-hosted a lively and spirited dinner at The Tower Club’s Continental with yours truly. Organized by Jayelles president Roselle Rebano and COO Bong Palma-Gil, the occasion proved to be somewhat of a rarity, because it was one of the few times when the Philippines’ top 10 architects were seen in one room, engaging in animated and fascinating conversations. USP, led by its president Pacific Paints (Boysen) market area manager Bobby Chua, joined USP members Eurotiles VP Benedict Tan, Philflex Wires & Cables VP Desmond Sia, Eastern Wire Manufacturing president William Lim, Metro Tech Steel Industries GM Sison Olano, Republic Powdercoat Corp. president Larry Chua, Mega Systems Enterprises managing director Anton Chua and Philmetal Products, Inc. VP Michael Sy, in bringing together these top-caliber architects as a way of honoring their contributions to shaping cities and communities in the country and different parts of the world. The honorees included architects Daniel Terence Yu with wife Maureen of G&W Architects, Gary Coscolluela of WV Coscolluela & Associates, Ricardo dela Rosa Jr. with Teofilo Santiago Jr., Xavier Antonio Garcia, Annette Gaddi Liganor and Ted Narciso of GF & Partners, Co., Abelardo Tolentino Jr. of AIDEA Philippines, Inc., Robert Carag Ong with Mark Steven Ong of Robert Carag Ong and Associates, Albert Yu of ASYA, Vicente Rodriguez with Pete Pimentel and Ronnie Simbulan of Pimentel Rodriguez, Simbulan and Associates, Jose Pedro Recio with Meloy Casas of Recio+Casas Architects, Roger Villarosa with Roy Villarosa of R. Villarosa Architects and Jun Palafox with Chona Ponce of Palafox Associates. Their invaluable role in redefining the Philippine landscape is a testament to the Filipinos’ innate genius.
