A century of harmony
March 26, 2006 | 12:00am
"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent." John Donne
The Brandenburg Gate, complete with its mighty steeds and flanked by dignified guards, rose tall at Makati Shangri-las Rizal Ballroom as Germans and Filipinos celebrated the rich history of amity and harmony at The German Club Manilas 100th anniversary ball. The gala event of grandiose proportions was led by The German Club Manila president Thorsten Franz, Centennial Organizing Committee chairman Dr. Gunter Matschuck and German Ambassador Dr. Axel Weishaupt, with the able assistance of the German Club angels, committee members Joanne Matschuck, Rhina Franz, Tet Lorenz, Ann Wienecke, Tina Fiedler and Flo Schreiber. Both German and Filipino members of the club enjoyed musical performances by saxophonist Vince Lahorra, the Manila Symphony Orchestra, Spirit of 67 Band and Kaibigan Street Children Choir. A slide presentation of the Clubs 100-year legacy, a Vienna waltz number, raffle of premium prizes and an authentic German menu of traditional dishes with flowing wine were enough to bring back memories of home. Cheers!
Advance birthday greetings to Heritage Hotels Geena Zablan and Starweeks Lydia Castillo, March 27; Betty Preysler and Gerone Olorocisimo, March 28; gracious lady Ester Araneta, newscaster Tina Monzon-Palma, Miguel Cerqueda and Corito Kalaw, March 29; Viana Fores, Jennifer Peña and Al Perez, March 30; Mandarin Orientals charming PR director Charisse Chuidian, March 31; Arsenic Laurel, Rañing Bautista and Suzie Moya-Benitez, April 1.
