The Anew-al report
October 16, 2005 | 12:00am
Uptown/Downtown gathered 23 women (ranging from ages 30 to 65 years old) and spent a month on an intense product experiment. The result of the 30-day research yielded the following skin-food for thought.
The Claim: This super-charged, state-of-the-art formula attacks the multiple causes of skin discoloration which can be due to aging, sun or environmental damage, and hormonal changes. Advanced brightening action corrects and now even prevents discolorations. See faster results than ever before. Now formulated for and tested on all skin types and tones. Use daily mornings over your favorite ANEW treatments. (1 fl.oz.)
The promise: Day 1 luminous and brighter skin; Day 7 discolorations fade; Day 14 flawless skin.
The key: Skin-brightening, patent-pending Diamonex Plus targets and fades discolorations.
Powerful Pigment Inhibitors help reverse and reduce the appearance of freckles, age spots and skin discolorations.
Exclusive Skin Retexturizers smooth skin, reduce dullness and even out skin tone.
Light Diffusers scatter light for instantly luminous, radiant skin.
SPF 15 UVA/UVB and Antioxidants protect against future discolorations due to sun damage and environmental stressors.
The Test: Uptown/Downtown tried Anew Luminosity Ultra on five women with various skin complaints: freckles, blotchiness as well as dull texture. After one week, all women noticed an improvement in skin texture. "My skin seems to have more elasticity," one participant claimed. After the second week, all women noticed their skin tone even out. After one month of use, all the women claimed to have totally eradicated any discoloration brought about by light exposure.
One out of the five women commented that the fluid was a bit too thick for her, giving her a shiny look by noon. The solution was to use less of the fluid in the T-zone area.
Uptown/Downtown rating: A
This product gives more than UV-A and UV-B protection, thus achieving an even skin tone on the user. An added (and very effective feature) is the improvement in overall skin texture a bonus that other sunscreens do not offer.
The claim: This protective, moisture-boosting formula features a time-released liposome system of Alpha Hydroxy acid to smooth away fine lines. It moisturizes and nourishes the delicate eye area, while optical diffusers also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it contains a protective PABA-free sunscreen, SPF 15. Dermatologist- and ophthalmologist-tested, hypo-allergenic; fragrance-free, non-irritating. Use daily, after cleansing and other treatments. (5 fl. oz.)
The Promise: Instantly protects and moisturizes the delicate skin around the eyes.
In two weeks retextures skin; diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
With continued use diminishes the appearance of crows feet; skin looks younger and healthier.
The Test: Uptown/Downtown tested the product on five women who possessed various degrees of wrinkling and lines in the eye area. The results are as follows: After one week, two women with slight under eye line problems noticed a visible "plumping" of the skin in this delicate area. After two weeks, all women noticed that lines were less obvious and crows feet were softened (although not eradicated). All women were satisfied with the feel of the fluid.
Uptown/Downtown rating: A
The product does not promise total eradication of lines and wrinkles. But it does deliver on what it promises a visible diminishing of the above mentioned. There is truth to their advertising.
The claim: A deep-moisturizing nighttime anti-aging treatment that instantly makes skin appear more resilient and feel firmer! In just one week, your face will see a 60 percent improvement in fine lines and wrinkles. With regular use, facial contours and definition are measurably improved all while you sleep!
The Promise: Instantly hydrates and nourishes skin.
After one week visibly diminishes appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; skin appears firmer and more elastic.
With regular use facial contours are more defined; face appears lifted and sculpted.
The Test: Uptown/Downtown tested five middle-aged women who possessed various degrees of facial sagging and elasticity loss. The results are as follows: After one week, two women dropped out of the testing because they found the scent of the night cream too overwhelming. Those that continued did see gentle improvements on their over all skin texture after two weeks.
Uptown/Downtown rating: B
The product does seem to possess an overwhelming scent. It also is thicker in viscosity than the other Anew products. However, promises of some visible improvement in skin texture and firmness are fulfilled.
