My best friend's wedding

- Karrie Bitanga -
When you reach your mid-twenties, you slowly feel some pressure when your friends start tying the knot. Aside from the anxiety felt as you see your friends fade one by one, there is that more manageable stress which is deciding what to wear when attending the wedding. Not only do you wanna look great when your friend walks the aisle, but there is also that chance that you might hook your own groom on your friend’s big day, if you happen to be single that is. And since most of the weddings nowadays are out- of-town or non-traditional, we recommend a more fun, sophisticated look as compared to the typical silk long gown for ballroom weddings. Check out how these four models decide what to wear for weddings.

Apple Barretto
Must-haves
(clockwise, from upper left)

Gendarme cologne• T Le Clerc face powder • Nars lipstick • Oriental bag • MAC lipglass • Pucci necklace

Apple is used to attending a lot of social events, especially with her new job in Ayala as marketing manager. When dressing up for a wedding though, it’s important for her to look elegant, without upstaging the bride. She likes to look fresh with clean makeup and dabs on a refreshing scent to complete the look.

She prefers BCBG when it comes to formal wear. As to when she plans to get hitched, this former Close-Up model seems still very thrilled with her career and is enjoying single life and has no plans yet, at least not in the next three years. She is looking forward though to a really romantic wedding like JFK Jr.’s at Cumberland Island in Georgia. We sure hope to be there when that happens!
Ciara Marasigan
Must-haves
(clockwise from upper left)

Fan with peacock feathers from Firma • Black shawl from her grandmother • Swarovski earrings • Aranaz bag with rose quartz and feathers • Red Charles Jourdan shoes

Ciara has experienced working with several brides herself as she designs and hand-crafts jewelry, some of which she exports to Hong Kong and Los Angeles. She admits to enjoying attending weddings especially when she’s known either the bride or groom for a long time. She just wouldn’t miss being present during the happiest moment of their life!

When thinking of her own wedding, she dreams of having a homegrown designer rework her mother’s old gown and would be accentuated with her brooches instead of typical beadwork. This up and coming designer and one of the newest members of the Young Designers Guild of the Philippines sure has a lot to offer as she prepares to launch her luxurious gold and silver collection together with Amina Aranaz and Tes Pasola at the Ayala Museum this August. Future brides should definitely visit their show and might just see something to spice up their own bridal gowns.
Tanya Moreno
Must- haves
(from top)Bvlgari cologne • Shu Uemura nail polish, blush and balancing oil • Diamond earrings • Chanel lipgloss • Silver shoes from Schu

Tanya still recalls being part of a very memorable wedding, that of her brother’s last December at their own farm in Batangas. This advertising copywriter and contributor to several broadsheets and lifestyle magazines chooses Rajo Laurel and Kate Torralba as her favorite designers because they understand her style and feels very comfortable in their creations.

Although, the style and cut of the gown is more important than anything, she also considers the right underwear a key ingredient when dressing up for a wedding. Her pet peeve is seeing girls whose undergarments are peeking out.

Another essential for her is wearing the right jewelry, preferably simple and not flashy. A pair of pearl or diamond earrings can make you look so elegant. She does look forward to her own wedding too, although not anytime soon as she plans to move to New York very soon.
Gigi Gonzales-Uson
Must-haves
(from top)

RMK Lip gloss • Bag from Mango • Paul and Joe Blotter • Gold shoes from Janylin

Gigi just celebrated her own wedding last February at the Camp John Hay Manor in Baguio. She also plays a big role in other weddings as well as does makeup for a living. Her career started when she apprenticed under Krist Bansuelo (who has did makeup for her own wedding) and is now something she can’t let go of. How can she not when she is surrounded with beautiful people and travels to fabulous places like Amanpulo for photoshoots. This former model also gets to share with those who aspire to get in the industry by teaching at John Robert Powers International and ABS-CBN Workshops.

For her own wedding, her gown was created by her good friend Paul Cabral. It was an Oscar Dela Renta-inspired ensemble which they saw on a Vanity Fair cover. It was all 16 layers of silk chiffon that made her look like a princess accentuated by her fave Mango pink fur bag and her custom-made wedge shoes. When she is just a guest, on the other hand, she thinks the most important thing is to look fresh, wear good make-up and a nice hairstyle and prefers gowns from Jun Escario and Kate Torralba.
