Lo & behold!

"Photography is capturing a moment in time on film. Its a recording of life and whats great is the photographer controls and chooses the recording."
New York-based Australian photographer Darren Tieste has arrived in Manila. After recently shooting for Rustans Holiday and Summer Imported Ladies Campaign, Darren is going full blast to make it in the arena of local advertising. Having worked for fashion both in the US and Australia, his impressive portfolio includes works with top international fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Cleo, Vogue Living, Blue, Blue Mode, DNA, Elle Girl, Fashion Quarterly and Cosmo Girl. In advertising, he has shot with such big names as AVON, LOreal, Pantene, David Jones, Seafolly Swimwear, Joico, Chino Kids and Marc. His work allows him to travel to many destinations shuttling him from the US to Australia to Europe and recently to Manila.
The world of fashion is nothing new to Darren. Exposed to the industry at an early age, Darren grew up in a studio and full production lab in Sydney that was owned by his parents. In high school, he was already a professional model working with Australias top photographers. Taking notes from photographers after each shoot led to his interest in photography. Since then he started taking pictures and his first job landed on the cover of Australian Dolly Magazine. His interest and collaboration with fashion developed his keen eye for beauty.
"Im into the beauty side of my industry," says Darren. "My style is beautiful, rich in mood with a sophisticated feel. I like to play and work with light."
His works exude moods of sexiness with class. Though technically he is mastering his craft, this confident but unassuming Leo is also drawn to a subjects persona.
"People are what I love to shoot. I like to meet people and enjoy bringing their own beauty to life."
With this philosophy it is no surprise that he has shot under his lens celebrities like Rachel Griffith, Chris Klein, Tara Reids, Jason Biggs, Michelle Branch, Rachel Bilson and Samaire Armstrong from The OC, Melissa George, Alias, Nicole Richie, Simple Life, singer Sophie Monk and band The Dandy Wahols.
His expertise in photography brought about work into another field, commercial directing. Under his cap are a handful of TV commercials that he has directed recently in Australia. But whats keeping this in-demand photographer in Manila despite his hectic schedule? "I love to travel to new places. Ive never been to Manila and it was Rustans that got me excited and gave me the opportunity to work in this beautiful country. Fashion in Manila is really great. Work is keeping me in Manila but more importantly I made some wonderful friends, too, and they know who they are."
But behind the lens, who is Darren Tieste? This happy-go- lucky twin is full of spirit and youth. "My motto is to be happy. Im a positive person and inspired by creative people."
Driven by creativity he adds, "I get to work with such amazing and talented people and thats such an inspiration to me."
With all his achievements, Darren remains humble and unfazed by the world around him. He constantly sets his mind to enrich and pursue his passion by creating images and making people look the best they can. Looking into the not-so-distant future, this dreamer is taking life one step at a time.
"My goal is to keep on working as a photographer and continue to direct TV commercials and maybe even a Hollywood film one day. There is so much to life for one to enjoy and experience."
It is his calmness that keeps his solitude as an artist. Life is never too fast and with that Darren ends, "Theres plenty of time."
