Rallying for a cause

"They can conquer who believe they can." John Dryden
The tireless and kind-hearted Imelda "Meldy" Cojuangco, one of the most generous people and a gracious lady Im fortunate enough to call my dear friend, recently held a gathering for one of her pet projects Relay for Life of the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS) at The Manila Polo Clubs Cameron Room.
Philippine Cancer Society Chairman Dr. Roberto Paterno, directors Adrian Ocampo, Dr. Anthony Villalon, Sylvia Palma and other PCS officers welcomed the guests.
The Cameron Room was decorated with flowers and balloons of violet and white, which are the PCS official colors. As the evening started, guests in their resplendent best started arriving and mingling with each other while sampling the fanciful gastronomic delights and crisp, palate-satisfying wines.
The night was truly a success as many guests supported the project, one which has been very near and dear to me ever since the dreaded disease had afflicted one of my loved ones. Meldy Co, the projects chairman, was pleased with the evenings turnout of volunteers to become team captains for the Relay for Life event in November.
Incidentally, it was also your columnists birthday that day, and I was deeply moved by my lady friends and gentleman pals who showed up for the evenings celebration. My dear friends, you have made the occasion something that will always be etched in my fondest memories.
My warmest thanks to those who volunteered for the project! To those of you who havent signed up yet, join Relay For Life today!
(Interested parties may call 733-3485, 734-2114 and 734-2127, fax no. 734-2128 or e-mail pcsi@philcancer.com.)
Happy birthday to our celebrants today, designer Oscar Attendido, businessman Ramon Cojuangco Jr., Teresa Arnaiz and Shelby Payne.
