Happy Mothers Day, my dear readers!
For every country, there is a season of exceptional beauty early spring in the British countryside, springtime in Paris, fall in Massachusetts, wintertime in Connecticut. There is one period in Japan (which unfortunately lasts for only two weeks) that is considered one of the most beautiful seasons Sakura, or cherry blossom time.
It was during this time that the Asia-Pacific Ladies Fellowship Society (ALFS) held its Spring 2004 Traditional Fashion Show at the Toita Womens College, a first for the group. The show, graced by Noriko Ishihara, featured indigenous costumes from six Asian countries: Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Vice Consul Rosanna Villamor and Angie Cirineo of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo; Leslie Siazon and Camilla Siazon, the daughter-in-law and granddaughter, respectively, of Ambassador Domingo Siazon Jr.; and Earl Tamayo, the son of Vice Consul Eric Tamayo, modeled the Filipino terno and contemporary versions created by Filipino designers and icons of the Philippine fashion industry like Ben Farrales, Pitoy Moreno, Patis Tesoro, Jean Goulbourn and Dita Sandico Ong.
Pretty Camilla and dashing Earl emerged as the audiences little darlings when they paraded on stage to the great delight of the guests. The Filipino creations received a warm round of applause from the audience in the fully-packed auditorium.
Our country was represented well in the event where we lived up to the beauty of the Japanese season with the beauty of our national costumes.
Congratulations and keep on making us Filipinos proud!
Holidays will never be the same at Camp John Hay, thanks to the Forest Fever event, a week-long music party. The brand new and spacious CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center was the venue for the much-anticipated event, and it did not disappoint. For five nights, Baguio got a taste of the authentic club scene, thanks to Manila DJs Martin Pulgar, Wendell Garcia and Reggie Inocencio playing the latest chill, lounge and house music as well as Latin and retro sounds.
Culinary artiste Billy King and Peng Perez de Tagle fashioned the centerpiece of the event: A 50-foot long bar strategically placed in the center of the area. Recessed lighting under the bar counter combined with track lights from the ceiling gave the impression that the bar was floating, which amazed the partygoers. Vibrant and excited youths grooved to the music until the wee hours of the morning, for this was an event that was created especially for them.
With this event for teenagers and young people, Camp John Hay has again shown that it is truly a fantastic family destination.
Congratulations and keep up the good work!
The Philippine Stars Allure editor, Joanne Rae Ramirez, was feted by her Assumption Convent batchmates and your columnist at the Tin Hau Restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental, Manila. It was an intimate get-together for Joannes friends as they celebrated another year of Joannes cherished life. Joanne was radiant in a sky-blue sun dress that drew compliments from her great-looking batchmates. Tin Haus food was excellent and the service impeccable, as is usual for the Mandarins high standards.
Belated happy birthday, Joanne!
