The Camp John Hay Chairmans Cup
February 1, 2004 | 12:00am
Imagine playing golf with towering pine trees in the background and the cold, crisp air titillating your lungs.
The relaxing mountain and forest scenery of Baguio was the backdrop for the Camp John Hay 2003 Chairmans Cup of the Camp John Hay Golf Club. The tournament was a major success, thanks to the efforts of the debonair chairman himself, Bob Sobrepeña and the hardworking CJH team, especially CJH Development Corp. CEO Benigno Cabrieto, CJH Development Corp. SVP for marketing and sales Shean Bedi and CJH Hotel Corp.s Freddie Alquiros. This year, the sponsors for the tournament were SMART Communications, Inc., Filling Station with Hotshots and Figaro, CJH Golf Club, CJH Hotel Corp., Camp John Hay Leisure, Inc. and CJH Development Corp.
The tournament was a tribute to chairman Bob Sobrepeñas vision of developing Camp John Hay as a world-class eco-tourism destination. Golf enthusiasts from everywhere turned up to participate in the days competition.
In their excitement, the 120 golfers arrived early at the world-renowned Camp John Hay Golf Course. Spanning 5,001 yards, the par-69 course had been re-designed by Golden Bear International through legendary Jack Nicklaus. The competition was intense yet enjoyable as the golfers made their way through the 18 holes. The participants were treated to gourmet burgers from Hotshots and coffee from Figaro by sponsor Filling Station.
Guests then attended the awards night, which turned into a celebration of the birthday of the chairman himself. The Camp John Hay grounds acquired a festive atmosphere as the guests partook of the free-flowing wine and feasted on the appetizing food provided at the buffet tables. The winners were named, and received an exquisite crystalline glass trophy as a memento of their accomplishment.
Tournament champions included Bill Lawrence as over-all winner; Robert John Sobrepeña as Group I champion; Danny Servando as Group II champion; Raul de Mesa as Group III champion; Tami Leung as Group IV Ladies champion; and Hanson So Jr. as guest division champion.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants! Congratulations to the Camp John Hay staff for a job well done! Congratulations to Bob Sobrepeña for a successful tournament and birthday celebration!
