That Breakfast at Tiffany’s look

BEAUTY’S SECRETS - BEAUTY’S SECRETS By Chechel Joson -
Holly Golightly. At 6 a.m. on Fifth Ave. she’s down on her luck. She’s got a case of the mean reds that only a visit to Tiffany’s can cure. Holding a cup of coffee and nibbling a Danish, she is a vision of such unusual beauty. Dressed in a black slim A-line dress, she holds a mysterious gaze. Her look, elegant. Her dream, love.

Romantics will simply sigh and say, "What a movie!" The fashionistas, eyes glowing, a look of excitement on their faces, will gush, "Wow! such wonderful outfits. And the makeup! Wonderful. The hair, fantastic!"

For fashion and beauty to move forward, they must draw inspiration from the past. And who better to take inspiration from than Audrey Hepburn? She is after all one, fashion’s most idolized personas. What is it about her that commands attention? One would definitely be her sense of style. She carried herself effortlessly well. The way she dressed up was very chic. Her makeup complemented her look. Her skin was flawless. Her makeup style always accentuated her gracious features and did not overpower them.

Now who wouldn’t want to look or be like that? When I got a call from Lulu Tan Gan asking me to style their Breakfast with Tiffany’s event at The Bellevue Hotel in Alabang, I said yes right away. I got so excited. It was sort of an Audrey remake on five models with Lulu’s clothes, Tiffany jewelry and the final touch, hair and makeup.

The silhouettes of Lulu’s creations – which she especially made for this event – echoed that of Audrey’s. I added an accessory which was a cigarette pipe to make sure we did justice to Audrey’s look. I also did some highlights on the models’ hair especially on the front area to make sure we didn’t miss small details that complete the ensemble. I also placed a beautifully crafted Tiffany jewelry necklace as a tiara.

Then, the makeup. I just kept it as simple, clean and elegant as Audrey looked. For this event, there was no stage for the models to walk on. Instead, they were to walk and mingle with the guests. In other words, no stage makeup. Just eye level type otherwise known as the natural type of makeup we all wear. Follow the steps that I prepared for you and see if you can try to do it yourself. All you need is practice.

An important thing to keep in mind is to make sure you keep your face well-maintained as possible. Good skin is very important in remaking a look and making it work. Now looking at the models’ photos, the physical side is achievable. But look at them closely and you’ll see something that comes from within. It’s the key to making any look work for you. Confidence.

How to get the Breakfast at Tiffany’s look:

• Prepare your face. Cleanse. Tone and moisturize if needed.

• Groom eyebrows.

• Apply concealer where needed.

• Set with loose powder.

• With a pencil and a brow brush, shape eyebrows. Audrey Hepburn’s eyebrows were a bit thick and dark brown. Blend with a brow brush. Fill in with powder brow color.

• Apply light peach eyeshadow on the whole eye area.

• Apply brown eyeshadow on the eyelids. Follow the bone of your lids. Blend by stroking the brush from the outer going towards the inner eye. Finish by blending the two colors together making an upward motion of the brush.

• Using an eyeliner brush, dip the eyeliner brush in water, shake some water off and use black powder eyeshadow. Option is liquid eyeliner. With steady hands, draw a line starting from the inner corner of your eye going to the outer side of your eye.

• Make sure you don’t leave any white space on the line. Line again if needed.

• Using a brown colored eye pencil, line the bottom eye.

• Curl lashes. Apply mascara.

• Using a blush brush, dip brush in peach brown colored blush.

• Use a peach lip color. Finish by dabbing gloss over.

• Sweep face clean with a powder brush.
