Fresh from inducting its second chapter, being recognized as associate national member of the World Heart Federation, and holding its 100th Public Forum on the Heart, the Foundation for Lay Education on Heart Diseases (FLEHD) added another feather to its cap when it inducted its third chapter in Capiz.
FLEHDs team of eminent doctors knowledgeable about heart disease and effective communication skills. They work to enlighten common folk about the countrys number one killer, dramatically changing their lives and giving them hope for a healthier future. The foundation has been touring the country to conduct fora, medical lay educational programs, free medical services and regional and annual conventions on preventive cardiology. The FLEHD Capiz Chapter was the latest to be inducted, and many more from nationwide have expressed interest in joining the foundation.
Made possible by renowned pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, the successful public forum showed the essential partnership between health professionals and pharmaceutical companies in ensuring better health for all. Health Secretary Dr. Manuel Dayrit, accompanied by Region VI director Dr. Lydia Ramos, division chief Dr. Sofia Chua and Capiz Provincial Hospital director Dr. Obdulia Gloria, not only acted as guest of honor, he inducted officers in the special occasion and also entertained participants with special song numbers.
The hardworking FLEHD president Dr. Adolfo Bellosillo was at his best at all FLEHD events, working closely with AstraZeneca executives Norman Sarmiento, Ramon Bancud, Butch Ladrillo and Jing Lopez and FLEHD Capiz Chapter president Dr. Cesar Yap Jr., VP Dr. Jose Dante Galbines, secretary Dr. Amelita Robles and treasurer Dr. Mathilde Blasurca to ensure that the event will not only be informative but also enjoyable.
The induction was followed by a medical lay educational program with lectures by Dr. Bellosillo and Dr. Efren Vicaldo, and a panel discussion which tackled heart related topics such as heart attacks, hypertension, cholesterol, smoking, exercise and sex. An open forum featured an inspiring dialogue between a curious public and the authorites on heart ailments. Participants also availed of free blood pressure examination, electrocardiogram, blood screening for sugar and cholesterol, dietary counseling and medical evaluation. It was a truly heroic feat for these dedicated doctors and pharmaceutical companies to help the public live better and healthier lives.
My congratulations to all of you! Keep up the excellent work!
