Honeymoon hideaways

Everybody loves the month of June, the wedding month. June calls to mind blushing brides, matrimonial vows and the most-awaited honeymoon. Couples who have just promised undying love will surely want a memorable place where they can spend their most special private moments. Here are some of my recommendations, places I have personally visited (though not with different brides!) which promise privacy, luxury and a most romantic atmosphere.
The Panglao Island Nature Resort in Bohol, nestled in 14 hectares of natural terrain, promises a nature adventure for couples. Each structure in the resort provides a spectacular view of the natural environs. A spellbinding view of the swimming pool, the placid sea and Tagbilaran City can be seen from the gazebo. You and your beloved can relax in the infinity pool, walk through the beach and garden while holding hands, or just simply live and breathe with nature.
Another quiet retreat in Boracay is the Graham Marsh-designed Fairways & Bluewater Resort Golf and Country Club. If your sweetheart is a golf buff, what could be better than playing a round of golf in an island paradise with a course designed by one of the world’s master golf designers? The Golfing Jewel of the Pacific boasts of an 18-hole par 72 championship and luxury golf course, luxury villas, pristine beach and a naturescape enhanced by waterfalls, creeks, rock formations and lakes. Make arrangements for a picnic lunch for two in the middle of the greens overlooking the beautiful sea, or a private dinner with a man-made waterfall providing the backdrop, or perhaps more romantic would be cocktails at sunset while aboard the resort’s private yacht.
Mactan Island’s Plantation Bay Resort and Spa is also a favorite spot for newlyweds because of its many lavish treats for lovers. Cuddling couples can spend quality time in stylish honeymoon suites. Or they may enjoy staying in a private villa with a jacuzzi all to themselves while enjoying luxurious treatments at the Mogambo Springs Spa. Starry-eyed lovers can have a romantic candlelit dinner at the Palermo Restaurant or dance the night away at Galapagos Bar near the open sea.
If you reside in the southern part of Metro Manila and wish to spend that night close by, The Bellevue Hotel is definitely the place to go. Its honeymoon suite is a world all its own – it has its own living room, kitchen, dining area, big screen TV and bathroom with separate bathtub, shower and vanity mirror. Treat your husnband to his favorite spicy Asian food at the Café D’ Asie Asian Specialty Restaurant or take him to 20/20 where acoustic performers will serenade her with her favorite songs.
You could also choose to spend the most glorious days of your newly-married life at Boracay’s only AAA-rated establishment, the Boracay Regency Beach Resort. Its Honeymoon Package offers three heavenly days and two heavenly nights of wedded bliss for only P5,295 net per person. This includes free daily breakfast in bed; daily dinner by the poolside or coffee shop; a bottle of wine; welcome drinks; and round-trip land and sea transfers. Watch the sunset with your loved one in one of Regency’s 85 luxurious rooms with lanais, or indulge in aphrodisiacs at the resort’s four restaurants. Before retiring to the honeymoon suite, engage in the perfect musical foreplay – dancing – at the Regency’s underground disco bar, Wave.
Mandarin Oriental, Manila also offers services for passionate lovers. Spend two weekend nights at this haven for P6,600++ for two nights. The Oriental Spa’s expert therapists will visit you in your room for a refreshing 45-minute massage. A free breakfast also awaits, and a leisurely stroll along Ayala and Rockwell malls is possible through their complimentary shuttle service.
Even June’s rainy days won’t dampen the spirits of the love-struck if they stay at Century Park Hotel. It’s because they need not go far for surprises await them right inside the hotel. The hotel’s five-star appointments can put anyone in the mood – if you know what I mean! You know your lovey-dovey deserves the best, so take your darling to Un Kai for a Japanese feast or at the Top of the Century for a rowdy party.
Tagaytay is also an idyllic place for honeymooners. With its magnificent view of Taal’s lake, with its cool and crisp air, Tagaytay is also conducive for romance.
Villet Sommet is one of Tagaytay’s hidden treasures for honeymooners. This "house on the hill" was originally intended to be a peaceful family getaway, but has since evolved into a venue for weddings and intimate parties.
Villet Sommet is easily accessible. From the main highway, turn right immediately after the welcome arch of Barangay Sikat. A few meters from this turn off is a large wooden gate, which opens up to the wonders of Villet Sommet. However, it would be wise to secure an appointment before viewing the place, as this is quite an exclusive venue.
At the wedding day, the bridal car sweeps over a circular drive and the bride can make her spectacular entrance from the top of the hill. She can walk the aisle from her choice of two different sites.
