...And they lived happily ever after!

"Heart, are you great enough for a love that never tires?" Alfred, Lord Tennyson
I love anniversaries as much as I do weddings. Anniversaries are testimonies to the fulfillment of promises made during wedding ceremonies, proofs that many couples do live happily ever after! So it is with pleasure that I write about two such happy anniversaries that of the Rufinos and the Guevaras.
Josie and Ernie Rufinos celebration was a quiet and private affair with only their "nearest and dearest" in attendance. The pair renewed their vows at Santuario de San Antonio, the very same church where they married 40 years ago!
Fr. Pat Lim, a dear friend and counselor of the Rufinos, officiated the ceremony. Since it was their ruby anniversary, Josie wore a beautiful red dress which seemed to add more glow to her already radiant face. Ernie was as blooming, suave in his barong Tagalog.
A sit-down dinner followed at Le Soufflé where light-hearted conversations and reminiscences were exchanged over Mediterranean salad, creamy prawns, grilled Chilean sea bass, steaks and sweet fruits as mellow music wafted in the air.
"It was really one of those special moments when you are truly conscious of your happiness. Sometimes I dont even realize weve lasted this long! Ernie is a really good man, very principled and generous. We are so thankful to all those who have been very supportive," Josie gushed.
"Groovy," on the other hand, would be the best adjective to describe Boy and Monette Guevaras 35th wedding anniversary celebration at the poolside of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
The 60s-inspired party featured a welcome arch studded with vinyl and compact discs, cardboard flowers, smiley faces and butterflies in bright colors. A thanksgiving Mass preceded the merriment to show the couples gratitude for blessings received.
Their family, relatives and friends including daughters Monica, Mikki and Sheila wished the couple more years of marital bliss. The Guevara childrens surprise gift a video presentation of the couples blissful married life.
The breezy atmosphere sent everyone in high spirits. Guests reveled in the open air as they tasted The Plaza specialties of caviar paté, fresh corned beef, Russian salad and other treats. Lady Valerie and her band played 60s music and psychedelia. Boogie, rumba, salsa and tango were the nights favorites.
These wedding anniversaries prove just how strong love can be. Congratulations to you, sweet couples! May your love last forever! See you on your 75th!
Happy birthday to our celebrator today, Stella Marquez-Araneta.
