Beyond addressing symptoms: Managing chronic pain

MANILA, Philippines — Managing chronic pain requires consistent care and an understanding of its underlying causes.
Andrea Benitez, marketing supervisor of Polarity Wellness Club, said pain management should go beyond addressing symptoms, stressing the importance of assessing a person's condition, lifestyle and movement patterns before recommending treatment.
“It's a process. It's something that is worth making into a routine. When it comes to pain management, it's not something that we should treat only once,” she said.
She added that identifying the possible cause of pain helps determine the appropriate treatment and movement routine for each client.
In their wellness business, for instance, they assess clients' needs before developing treatment plans based on their conditions and daily activities.
“Our bodies are what keeps us going. They're what support our life. So, we need to take better care of it and we need to make sure that we're giving it the right care,” she said.
Benitez noted that people with sedentary corporate lifestyles may experience fatigue and discomfort from sitting for extended periods.
The club encourages clients to incorporate proper movement into their routines and provides guidance intended to support healthier movement patterns.
It offers physiotherapy services, including pain management, scoliosis and back pain care, and geriatric care. It also provides recovery modalities that complement physiotherapy treatments. Their branches are found in Makati and Ortigas.
The business began in 2015 as Polarity Physiotherapy Center and has since expanded into Polarity Wellness Club, focusing on injury prevention, pain management, and posture and movement assessment through a team of licensed physiotherapists.
To mark the opening, the club held “Midday Reset,” an intimate gathering for VIP guests and media representatives at Cafe' K on the ground floor of M1 Tower.
