Celebrating in the heart month
Though February is the shortest month of the year, birthday celebrations filled up the social calendar with those born in the heart month.
Birthday duo: Lulu Tan Gan and Bernie Montinola Aboitiz
Both born on Feb. 11 (but separated by a number of years between them) and both named Lourdes by their parents to honor our Lady of Lourdes, fashion pillar Lulu Tan Gan and charming Bernie Aboitiz finally opted to gather a few of their friends for dinner at the Manila House. During the small gathering, it turned out that even Marilu Batchelor and Lulette Moran Monbiot were coincidentally also named Lourdes.
A table for 12: Babette Aquino
Well-regarded Babette Aquino was feted for the nth time by Consul Agnes Huibonhoa in an intimate birthday dinner. Guests were chosen by the celebrant to accommodate a table for 12 that turned out to be a perfect number, with everyone contributing to the hilarious conversation with a variety of spicy and juicy topics — proving that laughter is, indeed, the best medicine.
Childhood ‘amigas’ celebrate their mothers’ friendship
A friendship spanning generations is currently treasured by childhood amigas since most of them are god sisters. Though some are now based abroad, it is an occasion to celebrate whenever one of them is in town. That’s exactly what Carmen Fernandez Beaves did when she flew in from her home base in Hong Kong and London as she gathered her treasured friends for dinner to celebrate friendship and love. It turned out to be the perfect time to surprise Venice- and Patmos-based Sandie Palou Schwartzbaum with an advanced birthday cake. Plans are being made to make sure that even their children will be included in future gatherings so that the next generation can continue a friendship that has endured for more than 100 years.
Valentine baby: Dr. Norman San Agustin
Valentine baby, Dr. Norman San Agustin, was feted by his supportive wife Biba Apacible at the popular RJ Bistro. The gathering was perfect for his rock n’ roll friends who joined the celebrated breast cancer specialist on his special day. A scheduled musical jam is in the works for the guitar enthusiast to be included for a special performance.
