Likha 3 celebrates Filipino craftsmanship at the PICC
The works of Filipino craftsmen and designers will be exhibited in the third edition of “Likha” at the Philippine International Convention Center from June 6 to 11.
With the theme “Sining ng Lahi, Yaman ng Bayan,” Likha 3 opens in time for this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Storytelling partner is the Dama Ko, Lahi Ko movement that started in 2021 to promote Filipino soft power by highlighting our heritage. It has encouraged Filipinos to celebrate culture by sharing stories that are meaningful and personal, experienced through the five senses.
Under the aegis of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Likha started in February 2023 with a gathering of weavers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with the objective of showing their crafts as well as connecting these artisans with our talented Filipino designers, with the goal of sustaining Filipino traditional textiles by making them relevant and fashionable.
The success of the first Likha was followed by Likha 2 last June 2023 to coincide with the commemoration of the 125th Independence Day. Apart from textiles, it featured embroidery, basketry, pottery, mat weaving, wood and stone carving filigree and shell craft, among others.
Likha 3 will showcase the accomplishments of the artisans who participated in the first two events. A special section has been reserved for the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) awardees.
It is hoped that this weeklong interaction among Filipino artisans will encourage them to integrate what they have learned, and develop their crafts and designs to create a uniquely Filipino world-class artistry instilling pride through Filipino craftsmanship.
