Last week Tesoros had its 1st Disenyo at Talento Talks for 2024 featuring Jonathan Best’s books:  A Philippine Album: American Era Photographs 1900-1930 and Philippine Colonial Photography of the Cordilleras: 1860-1930.

The audience heard how these photos and postcards were collected, why the scenery and topics were of interest to the newly arrived colonizers, the Americans, and how the Filipinos reacted to and were made to pose for the cameras back then.

John Silva, director of the Ortigas Library, highlighted the changes since that era, and the importance of revisiting our past so that we can appreciate our heritage, and how our colonial experience affects our cultural identity.

The guests were treated to a Filipino-American-themed buffet of hamburgers and ham & cheese sandwiches, corn dogs, baked mac and cheese, popcorn and chocolate chip cookies. A good match to the theme of the night.

It was both fun and educational. In the mingling of varied interest groups, many new connections and friendships were made.

The two books and many others can be found at Tesoros 1016 Arnaiz Ave and its branches at Plaza San Luis, Fort Santiago, NAIA Terminal 3 and its Cebu Domestic Terminal branch opening 2Q24. You may reach at info@tesoros.ph.
