Art in the Park 2024
MANILA, Philippines — Art in the Park, the country’s favorite and most anticipated art day out, returns on March 17, Sunday, at the Jaime Velasquez park in Makati City from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Entrance to the fair is free for all.
Art in the Park continues to benefit the Museum Foundation of the Philippines in support of its projects and programs for the National Museum of the Philippines and its network.
For its 18th edition, Art in the Park gathers over 60 exhibitors representing galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups to present a vibrant showcase of diverse talents and to offer an opportunity for fair-goers to engage, interact, and immerse themselves in Filipino creativity.
Prices of artworks art Art in the Park are capped at P70,000 with many art lovers scoring coveted pieces for even far less.
As in previous years, Art in the Park 2024 features special exhibits by Filipino artists carefully handpicked by the fair’s organizers. The featured artists for Art in the Park 2024 are abstractionists Pepe Delfin and Clarence Chun, and multimedia graphic artist Demi Padua.
Demi Padua, considered one of the most sought-after contemporary artists in the Philippines right now, captures attention through various elements in his works. One particularly striking aspect is the composition of the portraits themselves. The faces dominate the entire expanse of his canvases, serving as a central visual focal point merging abstract and figurative elements. These symbolic visages become both enigmatic and intriguing, prompting curiosity among viewers.
Pepe Delfin, on the other hand, explores abstract forms through geometric shapes, squiggles and lines. She carefully places each element to produce a visual storytelling of the artist's experiences, observations, and relationships with people and contemporary life. In her works, Delfin constructs scenes portraying solitude and a multitude of emotions through vibrant hues and structured compositions.
Clarence Chun primarily engages in abstraction to create narratives centered on his connections and relationships to places had lived, particularly highlighting the influence of bodies of water as a prominent force in his works. With a childhood spent in Leyte and later residing as an adult in Hawaii, Chun's body of work depicts biographical narratives drawn from his personal history as a first-generation immigrant.
A variety of food and beverage concessionaires will be at the fair, offering fairgoers the opportunity to indulge in familiar favorites or explore new offerings. Visitors can enjoy music from Any Name’s Okay and Soulful Mood throughout the day.
