Melissa x Marc Jacobs: Limited-edition sustainable footwear
Two worlds collide to create an extraordinarily lightweight and sustainable capsule collection of stylish footwear and make your shoe closet more eco-friendly — Melissa x Marc Jacobs.
The limited-edition collection comprises three designs — the Clog, the "Becky" platform sandal, and the Slide — influenced by the color scheme of Marc Jacobs' ready-to-wear collection, and the signature Marc Jacobs monogram print throughout.
The campaign visuals, photographed in New York by Valentin Herfray and styled by Sydney Rose Thomas, show model Iris Law donning looks from the Marc Jacobs pre-fall 2023 collection while wearing the Melissa x Marc Jacobs capsule collection.
Style + Sustainability
The Melissa Clog + Marc Jacobs is crafted using a mono-material made of Biobased EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), a compound partially derived from sugarcane and has at least 25-percent vegetable content to guarantee extreme lightness and comfort. It comes in beige, black, blue, and silver.
Made with Melflex, Melissa's 100-percent recyclable plastic, Melissa Becky + Marc Jacobs sole's interior is filled with ultralight polyurethane (PU), and the insole is covered with fabric made from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles. It comes in beige, black, red, and silver.
The Melissa Slide + Marc Jacobs carries the Brazilian brand's well-loved easy slip-on style. Available in beige, black, blue, and red colors, the shoe is developed using Melflex and features a sole made of 100-percent biobased EVA, resulting in an ultra-comfortable shoe.
Biobased EVA is found in each shoe’s composition, either totally or partially. This lower-impact material is partially derived from sugarcane with at least 25 percent of vegetable origin content certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In addition to being environmentally friendly, the plant-derived compound is light and comfortable, bringing comfort to everyday life.
Moreover, the silver-colored models use water-based ink which does not contain volatile organic compounds that pollute the air.
With the constantly evolving sustainable sphere, Melissa has been investing by using biomaterials and recycled materials with carbon reduction in the production chain.
The brand's accessories are vegan, registered by the Vegan Society, and contain an average of 30-percent pre-consumer recycled polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The packaging is 100-percent recyclable; while also using 63-percent recycled paper and water-based glue.
