The 1975 is back at their very best in Manila with a two-night show
MANILA, Philippines — As Matty Healy, lead vocalist of The 1975, said it, Manila indeed got “dibs” on The 1975 and this was proven by the phenomenal crowd that filled the Mall of Asia Arena at their two-night show, “The 1975 At Their Very Best in Manila.”
The first night of the show opened with a remarkable and now internet-viral introduction of the members, Matty Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel, and Ross MacDonald riding quirky animal toy cars from the backstage hallway to the main stage.
This funny opening scene was followed by songs on their set list Looking for Somebody (to Love), Happiness, and Oh Caroline, to name a few, which immediately brought the crowd to euphoria. The second night of the show, on the other hand, surprised the crowd with additional songs and some covers.
For two nights, The 1975 also remembered to play some old hits, such as Robbers, Sex and Somebody Else. Of course, it wouldn’t be a The 1975 show without comedic comments and interactions between Matty Healy and the audience. At one point during Day 2, the band also generously played Nana, a song requested by a fan in the crowd who brought a surprise song-request board with her. Both nights literally and figuratively shook the Mall of Asia Arena as The 1975 played The Sound and the crowd danced and jumped out of delight up until the very end.
Ever since the band first performed in Manila, fans have embraced these British pop-rock superstars. And, as they returned to Philippine soil quite a long time after, The 1975’s power to magnetize Filipino fans with their music and charm is stronger than ever. In return, fans’ enthusiasm would always parallel the band’s energy with so much hype that could be perfectly heard, as they sang along with the band each time.
