MANILA, Philippines (As released) — The University of Asia and Pacific (UA&P) bagged the European Union Whiz Grand Slam held Monday at the University of Sto Tomas.

The UA&P team was composed of Anica Franco, Francesca Reyes, Alicia Sabarre, Courtney Tirol and coach Professor Gary Perez. The St Scholastica's College (SSC) Manila's Sophie Aguilar, Ivy Ohoy, Karen Villanueva, Jonela Yanson with Coach Professor Robert Robang came in as runner-up.

The teams from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and College of Saint Benilde also reached the semi-finals phase but UA&P and SSC emerged as grand winner and runner-up, respectively.

Eight other universities and colleges in Metro Manila, including Ateneo de Manila University, Far Eastern University, Lyceum University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Philippine Women's University, University of the East, University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas, the host university participated in the EU Whiz.      

It was the ultimate battle of wits as top-notch universities and colleges from Metro Manila showcased their expertise and knowledge about the EU at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, this year's host university for EU Whiz. 

European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen said that the EU Delegation to the Philippines launched this quiz to motivate young Filipinos to rediscover their ties and common history with European Union, as well as to get them familiar about the European Union, its institutions, the EU MS and EU-PH bilateral ties.
