A story of (health) conversion

- Fr. Jose Tuyo -

MANILA, Philippines - The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” These words aptly describe my disposition months ago. At 33, I was overweight at 242 lbs. — a heavy build for someone only 5’5 in height. Even as a child, I was already burdened with a weight problem. It is a matter of genetics. While I had gotten used to my heavy frame, I was getting sick and tired of my condition.

Other men my age would be at their prime. But my serious condition was taking away from my hopes, dreams, and work as assistant parish priest at St. Dominic de Guzman Parish in Sto. Domingo, Albay. I was already suffering from arthritis, gout, an eating disorder, and high blood pressure. I was sickly, got tired easily, often overslept, and always felt uncomfortable. I felt hopeless about my situation. The signs were telling. I became irritable,   impatient, inconsiderate, and pushy. This was no way to carry out my vocation. In my heart, I knew even as I was carrying out my functions that I was falling short on genuine commitment and dedication owing to my frailty.

And then came news from one of my fellow priests that a detox program would be conducted by Global Vital Source (GVS) to serve the priests in our town in September 2009. I attended the program hopeful that this would be the solution.

The detox program proved to be such an eye-opener for everyone. We were taught the holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle. It all boils down to the basics: exercise, diet, and natural nutrition — supplements to aid in the health regimen. On our end, it’s the commitment to stick to it.

During the detox, we were served a menu of comforting soups, platters of luscious fruits that I enjoyed thoroughly, and the detox beverage. This was to ease the stomach prior to cleansing. All throughout, a doctor was on hand to supervise, so we knew we were in good hands. In time, all of us made a beeline for the toilets. Thank heavens for good facilities at the convent ! It didn’t cause any embarassment at all, as we knew that our systems were being cleansed. We were all amazed at the harvest! Gallbladder stones and toxins were flushed out. Personally, I felt thoroughly cleansed after the session. I embraced this strange, new experience that made me feel so light.

Now, after only three months, I am a new person. The gains are amazing! I have lost 35 pounds (and still bent on losing more!). Gone are the illnesses that bogged me down. My normal blood chemistry results prove how healthy I have become. And everyone has taken notice. From my family who also enjoys this new blessing of health, having joined the detox program, to my parishioners and friends.

From the program, I have learned to adopt a healthy lifestyle. I refrain from eating meat, opting for fish, vegetables, and fruits. Now, I exercise a lot, with biking as a favorite. I take GVS’ supplement |HASH Power Greens to increase my energy and boost my immune system.

With the healthful gains, I have become more inspired in my priestly work that I take on with a newfound energy. I know now how to stay healthy, and must muster the commitment to keep at it. To me, there shouldn’t be any slipping back.

Finally, I have found health. This is a total conversion … definitely a milestone for me.
