Doc Willie Ong continues to educate amid stage 4 cancer battle
MANILA, Philippines — Cardiologist and content creator Doc Willie Ong said he has come to accept whatever God has planned for him as he continues his battle with stage 4 sarcoma, sharing a heartfelt message about faith, purpose, and the importance of prioritizing one's health.
Doc Willie has been undergoing treatment for stage 4 sarcoma, while his wife, Doc Liza Ong, is also fighting early-stage invasive ductal carcinoma, the most common type of breast cancer. She is currently receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
In a Facebook post, Doc Willie shared an open letter reflecting on his health journey, saying that instead of allowing their illnesses to consume them, he and his wife chose to use their experiences to educate and encourage others to take better care of their health.
"Ako ay may sarcoma stage 4, si Doc Liza ay may breast cancer. Imbes na malungkot, ginamit namin ang sakit namin para mag-educate sa ating kababayan," he wrote.
He also reminded the public not to ignore warning signs and to seek medical attention early.
"Health tips:
"1. Huwag magtago sa doctor 'pag may nararamdaman tulad ng pain o bukol.
"2. Mas maaga malaman ang sakit mo, mas malaki tsansa magamot, mas mura ang gamutan at mas mahaba ang buhay mo.
"3. Aralin ang sakit at sundin ang tips namin."
Despite the challenges brought by cancer, Doc Willie said he remains at peace, drawing strength from his years of serving patients and the support he continues to receive from the public.
"1. May 20 taon na kaming libre gumamot sa pasyente. Lahat ng makita naming pasyente ay libre na.
"2. May 10 taon na libreng gamutan sa medical mission ng ABS-CBN 'Salamat Dok.'
"3. Ang pagmamahal ng followers ko ay nakakaantig ng puso ko.
"Kung maikli na lang ang buhay ko ay masaya pa rin ako. Dahil alam kong nagawa ko ang misyon ko para sa Diyos at para sa inyo.
"Nagmamahal, Doc Willie Ong."
His message has since resonated with many of his followers, who flooded the comments section with prayers and words of encouragement for both him and Doc Liza as they continue their respective cancer treatments.
