How barangays are becoming spaces where kids build confidence

MANILA, Philippines — On weekends, familiar community spaces across South Luzon are taking on a different role. Covered courts and neighborhood gathering spots in barangays are becoming places where kids run through challenges, parents cheer from the sidelines, and families come together for an afternoon of play.

These scenes are part of Bonakid Pre-School 3+'s Batang May Laban Challenge, a community-driven activation that brings interactive games, family activities and play experiences directly to barangays through its roving "Byaheng May Laban" jeepneys and tricycles.

Designed to meet Filipino families where community life naturally happens, the initiative transforms ordinary weekends into shared moments that celebrate every kid’s confidence, participation and resilience.

Bonakid Pre-School 3+ believes that every kid deserves opportunities to grow, explore and face challenges with a fighting spirit.

"Every kid deserves the chance to grow into a resilient Batang May Laban," shared Bonakid Assistant Vice President and Senior Brand Manager Cheska Cornelio.

"Being a Batang May Laban is not just about kids' physical strength, but is also about their everyday laban or fighting spirit to not give up on any challenge they may face—big or small."

As the colorful Byaheng May Laban jeepneys and tricycles roll into different communities, moms and their kids are invited to take part in a series of fun and interactive activities while moms connect with fellow parents and encourage their kids every step of the way.

Whether it's cheering for the kids, helping them complete a challenge or capturing the moments on their phones, parents become active participants in the experience.

Among the featured activities is Tumba-Laban sa Immunity, where kids take on playful challenges that encourage them to stay strong and active.

Another crowd favorite is Laki-Laban, an interactive TikTok filter game that lets participants help Bonbon– the game character—overcome obstacles and collect nutrient boosts along the way.

After completing the activities, participating moms and their kids receive Bonakid Pre-School 3+ milk to take home.

The games are designed to be entertaining and experiential. Each activity encourages moms and their kids to participate, try something new and build their fighting spirit in a supportive environment surrounded by family and community members.

The activation also reflects the idea that meaningful growth doesn't happen only at home. Indeed, it takes a barangay to raise a kid.
