To infinity and beyond with Magnum
We crave it. We long for it. Occasionally, we sneak some of it in during work hours or in between classes. Some of us are always thinking about it. What am I talking about? Why, chocolate of course! It’s no secret that we Filipinos love our sweets, and chocolate is a nationwide vice for many.
The good news is that Magnum, the chocolate expert in ice cream, is here to both save the summer and tantalize your taste buds with their new Magnum Infinity ice cream that comes in two flavors that even the most serious of chocolate lovers would approve of.
In order to truly experience a chocolate fantasy like no other, Magnum treated us guests to a sumptuous and unique three-course feast during the Magnum Infinity launch held last week at the Sub-Zero Test Kitchen in BGC. Being chocolate experts, they teamed up with another expert to make this possible. Chef Jordy Navarra, owner of Toyo Eatery, who boasts an impressive resumé that includes working at the three-Michelin starred restaurant The Fat Duck in London, and Bo Innovation in Hong Kong.
To start us of, we were served a cauliflower flan with chocolate sea urchin and a hint of coffee. According to the chef himself, “We tried to use the bitterness of the chocolate to bring out the sweetness of the vegetable and sea urchin.” This was followed by the main course that consisted of black wagyu and squid ink mashed potatoes, made with 80 percent chocolate, garnished with cocoa nibs and a dusting of dried fish. “We wanted the texture of the chocolate to play along with the beef,” said Jordy.
Despite us guests being stuffed by the end of the two courses, we knew the grand finale was yet to come. After all, there’s always room for dessert! Plated perfectly by chef Jordy himself, the new Magnum Infinity in its two variants was finally served. Being a bit of a caramel fan myself, the new Chocolate & Caramel flavor combination was expectedly the first one I tried. Made with the silky chocolate ice cream that Magnum is known for, it contains a swirl of luscious sea salt caramel within that hits just the right notes when it comes to sweetness. Naturally, I followed this up with the Chocolate & Raspberry, this time containing a generous, fruity raspberry twist inside the decadent Belgian chocolate shell. The tangy berry taste, along with the chocolate, resulted in nothing less than an addicting combination. All around me, other guests were also delightedly digging into their own bars and I already knew every chocolate and dessert lover present would be giving these two new flavors a big thumbs up — if their thumbs weren’t busy holding on to the ice cream.
So what makes the new Magnum Infinity additions stand out from its current roster of already delicious and well-loved selections? According to Diane Tan, brand manager for Unilever RFM Ice Cream, “Magnum Infinity is an intense chocolate pleasure that lasts longer. It’s made with two times more cocoa than that of a Magnum classic. Because of that it delivers double the intensity of the chocolate.” For these new creations, Magnum also reached towards a vast, exotic continent where some of the best raw chocolate is obtained — Africa. Diane adds, “We sourced a very rare and special Tanzanian cocoa that makes this the most chocolate-y pleasure for Magnum yet!”
The good news doesn’t end there though.
