Skincare meets makeup in Céleteque DermoCosmetics
You’re not supposed to worry about pimples past your teenage years — or so I thought. A couple of months ago, I was completely horrified to realize that weeks of spending late nights at work and carelessly falling asleep with my makeup on (mortal sin, I know) had finally wreaked havoc on my skin. God-awful pimples covered my face, making me feel and look like an awkward pre-pubescent again. Only this time, I worried enough about premature wrinkles.
My default quick fix is to cover my whole face with makeup, but I knew that the (thick) layers of foundation and concealer were just a cosmetic (no pun intended) solution. Beautiful skin starts with healthy skin, and for that there’s no one you can trust better than a dermatologist. It’s tragic that many people often forget that dermatology is not just about having your pimples pricked or getting facials at the mall. It’s a branch of medicine dealing with the skin, nails, hair and its diseases, and so dermatologists — the real ones, at least — take skin very, very seriously. There’s a lot of research and science behind how they heal skin.
This is also why Céleteque is one of the most trusted skincare brands on the market: under the helm of healthcare provider Unilab, it leverages on the company’s pharmaceutical expertise to provide a deeper and long-term enhancement of skin health. All the lines under their DermoScience brand were co-developed by dermatologists, made with derma-grade ingredients and technologies, and clinically tested for effective results. Many girls, especially those with sensitive skin, already swear by Céleteque’s Hydration Facial Wash and Facial Moisturizer, but the brand actually has six different lines that cater to specific skin needs, from hydration to acne solutions. A friend of mine even swears that their Advanced Anti-Aging Cleansing Oil works as well as cult favorite Shu Uemura’s Cleansing Oils.
Now they’re infusing their expert skincare into a unique and cutting-edge line of cosmetics that will not just cover and color your skin, but also actually protect and improve it. Céleteque DermoCosmetics is an incredible breakthrough that blends skincare and makeup, and makes so much sense. It took two years of careful and thorough research for Unilab to develop, and aside from dermatologists, they also sought the help of makeup artists to reveal what Filipinas want and need in cosmetics, from the selected shades to the packaging.
The result? A blissfully uncomplicated line of everyday makeup essentials that enhances your natural beauty and effectively cares for your skin at the same time. “We simplified the idea of makeup,” declares Krist Bansuelo at the launch of Céleteque DermoCosmetics. Krist is the celebrity makeup artist who worked with Unilab to develop this line (quite recently, he used a certain ruby lipstick on Yaya Dub and sent her fans frenziedly racing to the makeup counters). Instead of creating an overwhelming plethora of products and shades, each product only has two to three shades to choose from, so you don’t need to be a makeup expert to know which of Céleteque’s shades will look great on you.
As Krist demonstrated the incredibly easy way to use the makeup, Céleteque’s Rhinna Cua enumerated the ingredients in each item and how they worked to improve the skin, citing statistics from the clinical studies that proved their effectiveness. The 24-hour Photoready Foundation is infused with Collagen Peptide, which reduces wrinkles and improves skin elasticity through regular use. Studies show that wrinkles were significantly reduced up to 41.31 percent (precise, I know!) after four weeks of use. It also has Phytocelltec, which is harnessed from cutting-edge plant cell culture technology that has extensive anti-aging properties.
The Dark Spot Concealer Stick has glycolic acid that lightens dark spots, plus Cytobiol Lumin-eye, which efficiently reduces puffy eyebags within 15 days!
The Cheek Color Stick (P645) and the Matte Lipstick (P595) both contain Bisabolol, an essential oil from a German chamomile plant that reduces flakiness from dry skin. (The Cheek Color Stick has even been proven to reduce fine lines up to 49.89 percent after four weeks!)
One of the most impressive items was the 24-Hour Volumizing Mascara (P645), which had a revolutionary retractable brush: with a simple twist of the wand, you can extend the brush’s bristles to lengthen your lashes or contract them to thicken your lashes. The mascara also contains Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice that protects the eyes from bacteria. The whole line is everything you need on a daily basis.
Hearing all the scientific names and numbers was impressive, and very different from the usual pitch from other makeup brands.
As I tried on their foundation, I could tell from the product feel and final effect that these were high-quality items, which made their very reasonable prices a pleasant surprise.
At the launch, a panel of multi-hyphenate women talked about the importance of having fantastic products working for you and keeping yourself beautiful, especially when you’re juggling many roles. Ning Tadena, makeup artist and life coach; Dr. Ian Banzon, triathlete and doctor; and Atty. Karen Jimeno, lawyer, host and columnist, are all insanely busy but always manage to look absolutely gorgeous — but not without effort. “Beauty, hindi talaga effortless,” admits Atty. Karen. But she encourages women to start with a right skincare regimen and efficient products. “Don’t settle for whatever is out there, whatever is easy,” agrees Doc Ian, imploring women to find the best items for them. And ever the life coach, Ning reveals that beauty begins within. “Positive thinking plus positive doing,” she declares. “That’s two times beautiful!”
