The skinny on losing weight after a trip
DEAR LUCY,
What do you do if you need to lose weight? I just came from an extended trip and I gained maybe eight pounds! I am desperate. I am not exactly skinny to begin with, so a weight gain of eight pounds is major for me. Also, because of the change in weather, my skin was breaking out on the first half of the trip and although it has subsided, I have quite dark spots. What can I use to lighten them? PENNY
Oh, that is almost natural on a trip — because you step away from your usual routine, the tendency is to also relax a bit and enjoy more when it comes to meals. What I do to shed weight gained from a trip is substitute one meal with a fresh vegetable and fruit juice. It is low on calories, but you do not starve yourself of vital nutrients, and you get slimmer in a healthy way.
Re dark spots, I came across a product from Goodskin Labs called Equinol, which is a dark spot concentrate. It promises to reduce the visible size and color intensity of dark spots by 55 perecent. Just apply it morning and night. It seems to work quite well in my case, I hope your experience using it will make you say the same. LUCY

The lightest eyewear in the universe
DEAR RISSA,
I‘ve been wearing glasses since I was in high school. I’m not comfortable wearing contact lenses because they irritate my eyes. My problem is I want to upgrade my eyeglasses to something more fashionable, but I want something light and sleek. The bridge of my nose already has indentation marks from wearing bulky glasses throughout the years! I know you’ve mentioned you are a contact lens wearer, but maybe there is something you can recommend.
GRETCH
Yes, I do wear contacts every day, but as soon as I get home, I take them off and slip on a pair of eyeglasses. I’m actually blind without contacts and eyeglasses. And yes, like you, glasses have become a burden. For people like us who have been wearing them for years out of necessity, glasses do tend to leave an unsightly indentation or depression near the bridge of the nose. I honestly hate it. I can’t escape it because when I get home, I still have to wear eyeglasses the rest of the day. It was only a few years ago that I found an amazing pair that changed my life. Have you ever tried Silhouette eyewear? They are so light and so sleek that you’ll forget you’re wearing them. What makes them so light? The Titan Minimal Art collection of Silhouette eyewear is rimless — made from high-tech titanium, they do not even need hinges or screws. Weighing a mere 1.8 grams, they are the lightest eyewear in the universe! Fact: A ping-pong ball even weighs heavier! Another fact? Fashion and Hollywood icon Cate Blanchett is their celebrity endorser. So is the handsome actor Patrick Dempsey. Now, I think you will say “eye do!†to Silhouette.
