When the 'dark side' is actually bright
MANILA, Philippines - Fashion brand Bum recently launched its latest collection via a Cosplay theme at the SM Mall of Asia dubbed as “Reveal Your Dark Side.”
Costume play or cosplay is the act of dressing up as a fictional character inspired by the TV anime series. It found its way in today’s wardrobe of the youth. It has even become a trend that can be seen and worn in the streets.
The fashion show, which served as the culminating event of the nationwide contest launched last August, was divided into three segments: My Anxiety, My Reality and My Dark Side.
My Anxiety showcases eccentric combinations with goth and grunge prints, perfect for all-day wear as they combined, comfort and ease. My Reality is on the hip and trendy street wear that defines the generation’s freedom. Lastly, My Dark Side shows dark modes, goth and grunge using dark shades of black and red. Teen stars and Bum endorsers Bea Binene, Dino Imperial and Empress Schuck walked down the runway to the delight of their fans.
The highlight of the show was the announcement of winners from the styling contest. All the participants had to do was click the “Like” button of the participating contestant’s photo on Facebook. Yves Xaviery Bengil from La Union, who had 14,733 likes in his photo entitled G-Dragon, won third place and was awarded a Samsung ES80 camera. Second place went to Abert Christian Canilao of Cavite, who had 14,779 likes with his Ulquierra theme photo, receiving a Blackberry Curve 9300 3G. Top winner Joy Dardo of Trece Martires, Cavite gathered 17,497 likes. He received a Nikon D3000 DSLR and a Bum lootbag. Non-winners, on the other hand, received P1,000 worth of items from Bum.
