MANILA, Philippines - We go through varied phases in fashion. There are times when one prefers a more streamlined, basic look. On other instances, however, one is more inclined to don a more casual and nonchalant look. Then there are stages when all things daring and unconventional pique our interest. For the many temperaments and moods that the world of fashion presents us season after season, the right accessories are key to achieving the looks that rocked the runways. At SM, the power of accessorizing rules.

Here we bring to you five looks that showcase the five moods and personalities — even stereotypes — of men and women. From the more conventional prep school or corporate ensembles to the utterly adventurous Bohemian or artsy pieces, we sort out for you the pieces that will complete just about any look.

The dark knight

Men with a seemingly darker side to them have a certain kind of appeal. This probably explains why such rebels as James Dean and Heath Ledger have become instant icons in their own respect. Bring out the dark knight through chain neckpieces, studded cuffs and a lot of black.

Boardroom genius

Corporate and crisp do not necessarily mean boring. If anything, it only allows one to explore a more grown-up approach in dressing. The right tote, for example, will definitely add character to your look. Instead of sticking to the tried and tested shirts and tie, opt for one with subtle prints or details and pair them with a bow tie.

Art school

You’ve run into him at one point in your life — the classic case artsy guy whose enigmatic appeal is impossible to resist. This season, bring out your more creative side by layering tone on tone prints. Top off the look with a scarf and hat.

Style sport

The jock. Just because he is often seen in a jacket and a pair of sweats does not mean he is devoid of style. A black leather cuff with silver stud details, for example, immediately gives a more stylish spin on the look. Polish off with a pair of acetate eyewear designed to fit an active lifestyle.

A decade that was

Images of the ‘80s are certainly making a comeback and this we see even in men’s fashion. Think Tom Cruise in Cocktail or better yet, Risky Business. Add character to your ensemble via leather woven cuffs and pair of dark eyewear.

Hip chic

Color, color and more color. Blinding hues on chunky accessories — rings, bangles and purses create a playful and dynamic look. To channel the modern Bohemian vibe, opt for an eclectic mismatch through print on print combinations.

The Sophisticate

Classic pieces like a sleek black suit get an instant update through metallic accessories. An intricate statement neckpiece gives this look an of-the-moment appeal especially when paired with an embellished slim belt to further give emphasis to the waist. A clutch in luxe skins also gives the function-meets-fashion feel.

Glamazon

High doses of texture similarly result in high octane glamour. Merge classic or vintage element with more trendy pieces. Opt for nostalgic pieces like a leather clutch and mix them up with intricate or sculptural bangles and neckpieces.

Rock Glam

This season, we say pile it on. From bangles of varied materials, sizes and shapes to neckpieces in different lengths, the key to putting together this look, quite ironically, is to not make it look too-put-together. Instead, aim for an overall look that expresses stylish nonchalance.

Living Luxe

Layering adds texture and depth to any ensemble. To create a more opulent look, don a multi-layered neckpiece. A pair of intricately embellished earrings, similarly, gives the right amount of shimmer and shine to the look.
