Angel Aquino :An Angel finds her wings

- Kirsten Uy De Baron -

One of the most beautiful faces in Philippine cinema, Angel Aquino definitely stands out in a crowd. Her roles as actress and model may take up a lot of her time but it is the role of “mom” that Angel loves most. This 35-year-old stunner is the mother of two teenage daughters, aged 15 and 13. This made her see life in a very different way, realizing that women have the power to change the world and that now is the time to act. Because she is a mom, Angel has become more aware of issues around her and is a passionate advocate for various causes. This is also one of the main reasons she has signed up for the campaign for GlaxoSmithKline’s Cervical Cancer Vaccine awareness.

“I want to use this privilege and opportunity to touch other women’s lives, to make a difference somehow, some way,” Angel says.

Even with treatment, cervical cancer is a leading cause of death in women, so prevention is the key. According to gynecologist Cecilia Llave, GSK’s Cervical Cancer Vaccine is the first vaccine ever designed to prevent a cancer.

Angel firmly believes in overall wellness and is very conscious about what she takes into her body. At home, her Nanay and her prepare homecooked meals made from scratch that have little to no preservatives and processed ingredients. Angel has also cut down on beef and pork intake because this diet helps her maintain her weight. She has also begun to attend Bikram Yoga classes to keep in shape and is feeling better than ever.

For Angel, the woman is the source of life. “We all come from the woman, we are all born of our mothers,” she says. So women’s health is a very essential topic for her. “GSK’s Cervical Cancer vaccine provides protection that starts high and stays high — for 6.4 years. So far, it is the only cervical cancer vaccine that does not need a booster shot,” Angel points out.

When asked her message for women regarding their health and lifestyle choices, Angel paused and said, “It’s okay to enjoy and celebrate your youth. But even if some people say to enjoy today and let tomorrow worry about itself, don’t be reckless because there might not be a tomorrow left for you. Now there are ways to help us be more prepared for whatever life may bring us, so we shouldn’t waste another moment.” And this, she mentions, is something she will absolutely tell her daughters to ensure for them a better, healthier, happier life.
