Lip Pickin’

BEAUTY'S SECRETS - BEAUTY'S SECRETS By Chechel Joson -
One of the hottest makeup trends this season is highlighting the lips. Lip colors like reds, corals and pinks made a statement that livened up the spring runways of 2006. Giving emphasis to the lips makes a look very glamorous and most certainly very feminine.

This stunning look is best achieved by having a clean, neat and simple face. For your lips to really stand out, you have to make sure that you even out your skin tone. No blemishes or eye bags, just a neat and clean face. With this kind of look, less is more. Add minimum amount of mascara or just curl your lashes and skip the mascara if you have enough lashes to work with. Finish this look with a hint of blush and you’re all set.

For women blessed with full lips, all you need is a lipstick with a creamy formula and your fingertips. Dab the color on your lips and you’re all set. For women who are not as blessed with luscious lips, this is what you can do to make it look as natural as possible especially if your lips are uneven. Use a lip pencil that is a shade darker than your natural lip color. Start lining from the corners of your mouth going up to the peaks of your upper lips. Balance the other side of your lip before lining your whole bottom lip. Now that you have drawn your lips, you can now apply your lip color. I suggest you use a créme lipstick so it doesn’t leave your lips dry. (If your lips are dry, after brushing your teeth, brush your lips lightly with your toothbrush to exfoliate your lips then apply a moisturizing lip balm after). Using your ring finger, dab the color on your lips. There you have it, you don’t need collagen after all. You might want to try using venom, a lip pucker with mint. It stings a bit but it does create a bit of a pout. Now that you know a few tricks, all you have to worry about is that the "lip" and the color stay on the whole night. Here’s the trick: learn how to eat your food the right way so you don’t "mess up your lips." It may look a bit funny so you’ll really need to practice in front of the mirror for this one.

Women with fair skin can most definitely wear the pinks and the reds (with blue undertones). For daytime, pinks would really make a good statement even at night, just add a bit of intensity to the pink. It relays a subdued elegance, glamour and mystery. If you want a stronger impact, a sure scene stealer would be red. Reds with more brown and orange undertones are best for women with olive or dark skin. For women with olive skin, corals would best fit their complexion. If you want to look as luminous and refreshing as the corals in the ocean, then why not try this color and see what impact it creates. Keep in mind that these are general tips to follow on choosing the right color for your skin tone because you’ll still have to try the lip color on to see if the color sits well with your skin. There you have it, take your pick, empower your lips this month and let the colors do the talking. This is our month. Our time. Our choice.
