Escort for Chinese VIP nabbed

MANILA, Philippines — A security escort for a Chinese man was arrested at the San Juan City police station for usurpation of authority over the weekend.

Marlon Perena, 37, was nabbed by S/Sergeants Jonald Tungcul and Mark John Provido after he failed to produce a Special Duty Detail Order  (SDDO) signed by the chief of the Philippine National Police.

Perena arrived at the police station to accompany a Chinese, who acted as a complainant in an estafa case, according to San Juan police chief Col. Jaime Santos.

“He identified himself as a security agent for a Chinese VIP. We accosted him for carrying a handgun,” Santos said.

Police said Perena was able to present a permit to carry firearms outside of residence and a license to own a gun.

But he failed to produce his SDDO, prompting Santos to place him under arrest.
