South Korea, Philippines partner vs crimes

MANILA, Philippines — The South Korean embassy in Manila has hosted a conference to strengthen coordination with Philippine authorities amid crimes targeting South Koreans.
Two kidnapping for ransom incidents involving South Koreans occurred in August and September.
“The incidents underscored the importance of strengthening a close and effective three-way cooperation mechanism among the embassy, Korean authorities and Philippine law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of Korean nationals,” the embassy said.
At least 40 officials from the embassy, the Korean National Police Agency and Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) attended the Oct. 1 conference.
The embassy recognized the AKG for its contribution to the safe rescue of victims in the two kidnapping cases.
South Korean Ambassador Lee Dong-gy presented certificates of appreciation to AKG officials and personnel.
